Is this Dynaudio ad too good to be true?
« on: 9 Oct 2008, 04:08 pm »
Yea, so I was looking around for speakers, and came across this ad:

http://www.webclassifieds.us/index/listings/page199302.htm

What is you guys' take on this? It seems unlikely that he could be selling off (multiple) pairs of Dynaudio Confidence C1, that retail for $6,500 at a price of $1,000/pair.

And no, I haven't forked over my (increasingly) hard-earned cash

The guy lives in zip 49610 = Acme, MI.
Acme ... Isn't that where all of the Coyote's gadgets he buys to thwart the Roadrunner come from?
And they NEVER work. They always end up blowing HIM up instead. I think that's what will likely happen to you were you to buy a pair of those listed.

I've been to Acme a few times.  Near Traverse City, a nice resort town (at the south end of Grand Traverse Bay in the northern end of the lower peninsula), home of a very nice golf course, The Bear (Jack Nickelas design).  So there's definitely money there, but don't know about a Dynaudio dealer.

Sounds like too good of a deal to me. And you know what they say "when it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is".

Personally, these would be a safer purchase:

can't speak to this guys Dyns for sale but one of his other ads looks really interesting, especially if you are into vintage gear.

JBL OLYMPUS Delphi S7R Cabinet w Mcintosh System

Don't know about anybody else but at $1150 I'm tempted to contact him.

On this same website, there is a guy "selling" Linn Unidisk SC universal player for $650 ($5000).
He "lives" in "Montana, Montana" and the zip corresponds to some county with a population of under a hundred.  Interestingly, he has the same add (same photo) on another site claiming he is in LA.  Surprise, surprise, when I e-mailed him asking for an address and phone number, and suggested COD would be appropriate, he e-mailed back telling me where to send money - no phone number or address.  I bet if you ask this guy you will find the same.

I saw another add from eastern europe from a guy claiming to have all the new McIntosh MC 275s you could want - for a song...

There are a ton of crooks out there.

"Safer" in the meaning of "if all civilization breaks down, these will keep you warmer for longer"...
