I am looking at upgrading my speakers in my HT system.  You can see in my HT System and Gallery my old Infinity RSIIIa speakers that I am currently using.  These speakers are very nice sounding, but for rock they just don't rock.  These speakers are used when we have parties as well as home theater duty and general around the house listening.  I am willing to spend up to $1,500 and would prefer a full range-floor stander.

If the system has a matching center channel, that would be a plus.  Also, I have kids (3 and 7), so speaker grills are a must.

Any suggestions?

Onix RS750's?
Odyssey Nightengales?
Diluceo's?  Oops, no speaker grills!
Something from Totem?

Hmmmmm??????

Steve - have you considered used Vandersteen 2CE signatures?

Also, there were some closeouts on Dunlavys recently .. may be some left.

If you wanted to spend a bit more, hard to beat the Dalis.

I have considered the 2ce Sigs.  I have the 3A sigs in my 2 channel system, so I am very familiar with the sound.

What model Dunlany and where were the clouseouts?

I have not heard the Dalis before, but I will look into them.

Thanks

Steve

The Onix Ref Ones, the PMC TB2s, the nOhr Mini9s, the Van Alstine Biros, and of course the VMPS 626Rs, all offer good performance in that category.

Dunlavy's - all of them were on closeout - an ad in Stereophile a few issues back. I would get the SCIV

Since you already have one of our speakers listed in your considerations I'll give you my 2 cents worth regarding our products.

Of our products, the model that most fits what your asking for would be our A/V-3.

It will give you the strong output often demanded of them when playing hard rock pieces while still being an easy 8 ohm load on your amp.

It also matches our Diluceo (the model that you mentioned) in many areas.

Grills are available as is a matching center channel (shielded even), and if built from a kit it stays well under your budget with plenty left over for a center and even rear surrounds.

I think your spot-on with your Odyssey Nightengale choice. High WAF, small footprint, bottom ported for easy positioning, and they just flat out sound good. :D BTW, the Nemisis center speaker also follows Alain Courteau design efforts by being a very musical ported speaker. For $1295, there's a lot of plus's here to look at, IMHO. Regards, Robin

Is that a Norwegian Company?  If so, I have heard that their speakers only sound good when it is 30 below freezing, and I live in Florida so it probably is not a good match.

Thanks for the suggestion.
