P-8S upgrade impressions
« on: 6 Oct 2008, 02:08 am »
I noticed that the P-8S is now on the Nuforce website, but the 'S' appears to be the only thing new.  The photos, specs, and the measurements on the website, are all for the original P-8.  I'm very interested in the upgrade, but Nuforce has only talked about removing the headphone amp, changing to 4-RCA inputs, 12v trigger, and new remote control.

What we have not heard or read about yet, are the sonic improvements made to the P-8S over the P-8.

This remains a mystery, and thus makes it hard for me to understand why I'd upgrade unless I wanted a trigger, or to have the inputs changed.  I was hoping for notable sonic improvements as well.

Has anyone A/B'd the P-8 to the P-8S?  Or at least gotten ahold of the specs?  I'm interested to hear what folks think.

Is there a headphone amp in the P8? Never noticed that....How do you connect a pair of headphones?

The upgrade doesn't change the spec.  We can only give a rough listening improvement at about 20% from P-8.
Unless you're buying the P-8S + Stereo 8.5V2 set new, I would say upgrade is not necessary.

The original P-8 has a headphone out at the back and there is even cross feed of left and right channels. It is quite good but I doubt anyone ever use it.

On the back of the P8 is a something called M/S. What is it for?

The M/S is another useless feature
It allows you to chain multiple P-8 together with the 1st P-8 acting as the master for control
