$400 is sounding like a lot of money for a rube-goldberg 'you need two boxes to hook up real speaker wire' setup.
For that kind of cash couldn't you do a single-box solution, maybe twice the size of the current Icon that has real speaker connectors and can run high-efficiency speakers? A 12 watt amp with a design flaw that doesn't allow it to be used with it's intended speakers (high efficiency) doesn't sound so good.
I'm glad I don't have any problems with my 89db speakers. Otherwise this might be a problem I'd be tempted to solve with a hammer.
EDIT: Ten minutes after posting this I started getting some high-frequency noise coming out of my system. I turned off the Icon and it went away. System had been playing about 30 minutes. Who's got a hammer?
