Hi,

Probably the most favourite subject between audiophiles around the world is the on-going "fight" between analogue and digital. Since the introduction of the CD in 1981 and after some years of the digital predominance, digital seems to have hit the technological roof and analogue is making a strong come back in the last 10 years. Personally all over these years I have made my comparisons with various material and I have concluded them in a paper at http://aca.gr/rec05_skal1.htm

But some people were telling me that my old Wadia 8/15 pair was technologically outdated and so the comparison was not fair, so I decided to organize in my listening room a blind test between a top digital (whatever that means...) and my analogue gear, with lots of people invited...

See the rest of this very interesting IMHO story here:

- http://aca.gr/event08-9.htm (with lots of pictures and 10 videoclips covering the event).

I hope you enjoy it...

Hey!

No, there are lots of analog fans here also. :D

Actually this have been going on since the first day CD was born. This is an old news for me and many other people here that have been in this audiophile thing for a while. Maybe it would be an interest for younger audiophiles out there.

For me when it comes to sound 16 bit Red Book CD can sound good when done right. But there is always something that is amiss that analog vinyl seem to captured and present it better. Of course CD is much or convenience than LP for sure.

Even play though some of the best CD playback system it still can't match the turntable system at the same price.

For me the 16 bit CD just can't capture all the original analog signal from the day it was born.

Well, that was just my $0.02 opinion. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Well said, Buddy  :thumb:

You can throw my 2 Euros (or 50 Drachmas) in on that comment, too.

Regards, John (the equally vinyl-loving Greek guy in the US )

i DON'T want to know, i know for so long. Of course analogue sounds better best digital can only simulate analogue

but especially with SB/3, Duet and so on digital is sooo much more convenient and (after mods) sounding almost  :deadhorse: good enough to bear and try to forget analogue

Is there an audio forum anywhere on the internet where this thread has not been posted?

I think "strong comeback" hovers somewhere between overstatement and wishful thinking.  Still, it's nice to see :deadhorse:  again!

Mr. Kaloumbakas,

I had a hard time finding what you thought about the Weiss Minerva - how did it fare in the tests?

Thanks.

Hey!

Well, non of the current recording techs are also and I'm not sure if there will be one in the future also.

I guess I should be more specific than..... Analog vinyl dose a better job in this regard than the 16 bit Red Book CD. :D

Take care,

Digitally remastered LPs...
Years ago, I had the listening experience with the following CD's (I supose you have heard them...) and not with my current analogue set-up...

I had those records in CD's and when came in my hands the vinyl pressings, I immediately exchanged them with the vinyls...

They are 16 bit - linear cuts, as I read on the records' cover technical notes... I have an explanation why this is happening... but I would prefer to ask if any other fellow had the same experience with me with digitally remastered LPs...
