Very cool!  I would buy that amp in a second if I could afford it!  Guys, it's PASTEL pink that's feminine, not really deep saturated pink like that.  The yellow isn't bad either, but the pink is more radical.  It's crazy looking, but in no way could it possibly compete with the hideousness that is the Ampzilla blue and yellow faceplate.  (the black and gold is much better, but that hand-cut looking shape still sucks)

As a designer myself, I can see that if one has a room full of highly saturated color objects... which is exactly how the Italians love to design... you know... Crayola Crayon colors... this amp might find itself visually "comfortable".

In the world of design everything is relative to what is next to it... in this sense there is no such thing as a "color" by itself... because all color is relative to what other colors are next to it... imagine for example a hot pink or yellow sofa or wall or?

Personally, I am not offended by the use of hot pink... I can see an audio company going in that direction in order to find a unique place among the standard black or gold or silver fare... and if their advertising is ingenious they just might find an audience for their unusual color schemes.

Is anyone familiar with the incredibly expensive Open Baffle speakers called Jamo from Denmark? Hot yellow and red... even the Scandinavian designers like highly saturated colors.

http://www.jamo.com/Default.aspx?ID=6358&M=Shop&PID=15707&ProductID=17862

Admittedly... ones masculinity would have to be firmly confident to purchase this amp and not be looked at with squinted eyes. Of course a wonderfully daring lady who is not afraid of bold color statements might just find this amp a perfect expression of her confident femininity.

We gentleman like to think of audio as a man's game... so hot pink grates the misogynist nerves.

I think you're right, Richard.  But I also think this particular amplifier just SCREAMS out for a "Barbie" logo on the front.  My "better half's" 6 year old granddaughter would LOVE it!  It's close enough to "Hot Pink" for her, I'm CERTAIN!

But, while this isn't my "cup of tea", I certainly support the builder's freedom of expression.  I may not agree with it, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have the right to express himself his way.  It would be a bland world indeed if there were only ONE school of thought, wouldn't it?

Well, school's out here.  I must sleep.  As Scarlet so aptly put it, "Tomorrow is another day."

Warmly,

Bill

Hi Bill ~

Several of the posts in this thread made me smile... SwedeSound almost made me fall off my chair!!!!

Overall this is one of the most delightful threads I have read recently on AC.

My post definitely goes against the grain of the wonderful sense of fun and the refreshing reactions of AC members.

I guess when I saw the amp... I thought it would be so nice if someone who might really love to have it could get a bit of "support" in his/her decision to  purchase it. I have an attraction for highly saturated colors... even if I do not actually live with saturated colors in my home... since my wife Deborah is an active artist we like to put her work on the walls for the pleasure of viewing it... so we don't want the "normal" objects we live with to compete with her paintings and prints.

I find all of your posts to be incredibly honest, Bill... highly well-informed and generous in spirit in the extreme. Sorry if I kind of side-tracked the fun of the thread. I guess I have a soft-spot for the underdog... aesthetically speaking.

Warmest Regards ~ Richard

Richard -

The consensus seems to be that the underdog was overreaching.

I think it was made for the guy who lives here:

It's actually just three blocks from my house... And I don't have a problem with the color, per se. I can just see regretting it in a few years. Like getting a tattoo. Or buying stock.

Swedesound, it is a sin to have something painted like that.  Get those sandblasting equipment ready.  Who knows, it might be a swanky studio for a risque undergarment designer or something.   :green:

Believe me, the guy in the Pink House (*not John Mellencamp) hasn't won many fans around here. He basically says "f--- off" to anybody who doesn't like it. So, be my guest. Get your sandblaster and blast away!

Indeed, it's Park Slope. We're on Carroll St. between 8th Ave. and the park. Lincoln is five blocks north of us. We love it here, pink brownstones notwithstanding.

I do not care that the amp is pink.  I would not care if it puce, magenta, purple with yellow polka dots.  I care that it is butt ugly!

As for the color threatening my masculinity, hell, I'm an audiophile which makes people look at me funny anyway!

The house can only be described as "Tres Tacky"  The term for painted Victorian Homes is "Painted Ladies", not painted $20 Crack Ho's.

That paint on the amp is just bad taste, painting a Ferrari that way is simply criminal.  :uzi:

Money talks even if we don't always like what it says.

I'm trying to think if there is anything pink in our house. My wife hates red and all variations including pink so I don't think so.

Lots of earth tones here. We're pretty dull now that I sold the orange metal flake speakers.

I do have some green Altec amplifiers I'll sell though. And a blue Cotter step-up transformer.

Maybe even a chrome preamp.
