Okay, time for me to chime in...

I have owned the M80's since Wayne first introduced the design.  Although I have tried (on numerous occasions!) to replace them with less expensive designs or DIY designs, NOTHING sounds as good on my system.  I even enlisted the services of ol' Eagle Ears (aka my wife) to A/B the M80's with other cables and they always came out on top.  At their regular price, they are a bargain...at the sale price they are an absolute steal.  I don't know why they sound better (smooth articulate highs, tight and tuneful bass), but they just do.  Damn you Wayne!

Also, anyone on the fence and thinking about buying anything from Wayne please note.  I have auditioned several cables from Wayne and have purchased cables and DIO upgrades through the years.  He is a true gentleman and a great guy to deal with.  He stands behind his products, delivers on time, accepts returns when necessary and, above all,  makes some of the best stuff I have ever tried.   I wish I could get this type of performance from cheap cables or DIY because it would be nice to save some money, but, to date, I can't.  Maybe that's why you rarely see anyone selling their M-80's on the used market... :D

Cheers!

Jack

Well crap.  I just bought a Stratos from Klaus and had narrowed my initial cable decision to the M-80's or his Groneberg cables and went with the Gronebergs... these prices might have changed my mind!

The prices also might force me to get a set of M-80 cables to compare just for my own curiosity.  Think of it as a Christmas present to myself... ;)

Hey Cover,
You are in luck.  I've never tried those cables but both companies are great about returns.  Just buy the M80 Bolder's and compare the two.  Keep the ones that sound better!   I also really like the Bolder Digital cable.  Tried several others in an effort to save some $$$ and was unable to find a cheaper cable (or a more expensive one for that matter) that could match the Bolder Digital.  I don't think it's on sale, but it's pretty inexpensive and worth every penny.  It also has a 30 day return policy.

Good luck,

J

Can anyone comment on the sonic differences between the regular and silver bullet plugs on the Bolder interconnects? I have the regular bullets now and was thinking of upgrading, and I didn't know if this would make a substantial difference.

I've tried the groneberg IC's and the speaker wire, I didn't like them very well, returned them pretty quickly.  Note this was the "standard" groneberg stuff, not the really expensive "reference" stuff.  The M80's were much better, IMO, and the Nitro stuff was even better than that.  JMHO.

Damn, no component or digitals on sale... :(

'course you still don't have the Napalm listed on your site, so I couldn't order it off the site even if digitals were on sale.

Wayne, do you have the production model Eichmann Bananas yet?

If you could only have one of these, which would it be?....
M80 w/Silver Bullets, or
Nitro w/Standard Bullets????

Thanks for your thoughts.

Nitro w/standard bullets, absolutely.  But you MUST get them cryo'd, then they sound a lot closer to the Nitro w/Bybee's.

Just pulled the trigger on a couple pair of M-80 IC's and M-80 speaker cables, hope they are worth the payola!  They will be replacing Vampire IC's and Monster speaker cable.

Received my M-80's today, exactly 1 week to my door..great service!  With the holidays and all, I wasn't expecting them this quick, thanks Wayne.

My intial impressions are first off the cables look very nice, great craftsmanship!

The sound?...  I was a bit skeptical if I would really notice anything different from my cheapo cables but I was pleasantly surprised.  I've only listened to a couple few cd's so far but what immediately struck me is how much better the midrange sounded.  I'm not sure how to describe it but it just sounds so much more natural, smoother.  I think I might be a believer!

Now my question is where do I go from here?  Would it make a difference to add a second set of speaker wires to bi-wire?  Should I consider adding some Bybee's, if so where would make the biggest difference?  My system is plugged directly into the wall, no surge protector or power box etc.

My system:
Sunfire Classic Tube Preamp
Parasound 2ch amp
Sony C555ES SACD player
Soliloquy 6.2 speakers
M-80 interconnects and speaker wire

I am glad you like the cables.  :D

Even though they spent some time on the Cable Cooker, they will improve a bit more in your system with about a weeks worth of playing time.

AS the next step upon the upgrade path, I would suggest you consider changing out your power cables.

I usually suggest you start at the source and work your way to the amp. I am not sure if the Sony has a removable power cord.

The Sunfire and the Parasound will benefit from new power cords.

Another upgrade would be to replace your wall outlet with an Acme Audio Silver Plated one. These can take up to a month to break-in. Your system's sound will change radically during that time period, but in the end, it will be worth it.

If you haven't addressed your room, I would also suggest you consider picking up an Eighth Nerve Room Pack. I have used them for some time and I am a great believer in room treatment.

Thanks Wayne for your upgrade input.  Neither my Sony nor Sunfire have removable power cords and I'm planning on replacing the Parasound amp soon.  I was a bit skeptical about the sound difference of speaker cables and IC's so you can imagine how I feel about power cords.  I have no experience with replacing power cords but I just can't understand how they can make that much of a difference.

The 8th Nerve room pack is on the top of my upgrade list.

I can understand your thoughts about power cables. I was quite uncertain about what difference they could make until I heard it myself.

Here is a link to a very good post about power cables by Jon Risch:

http://www.AudioAsylum.com/audio/cables/messages/13538.html

While I feel that the geometry and material used is more important than he does, I do agree with his basic ideas.

The Volex cord is a good one to experiment with. It is fairly inexpensive and can show you if power cables do make a difference in your system.

I happen to agree with Wayne.  I am experimenting a bit with power cords of my own.  I did a beta test of Wayne's power cords a while back on HD.  I also had the Volex and Signal Cables' cord on hand.  You could definitely hear differences.  Some not very large, while others I wouldn't do without.

Oddly enough I have found through further playing around, that in my system what works for source doesn't work well for amp.   I haven't had good luck with unshielded cords on my amp.  Visa versa for source.  This may very well be particular to my system.
