AVA power specs?
« on: 19 Sep 2008, 03:14 pm »
Hi, I'm new to the forum,  I'm looking at buying on the Hybrid amps.  Can anyone tell what the exact power out put of the FV 350 and 550 amps are at 4ohm's?  I talked with F. VA and he says that the power should double the 8 ohm power.  But not all hi end amps dont double their poiwer at 4ohms.

Also, does any one know what the peak current is in these amps?

Thanks!

The Ultra 350 is 160 watts RMS per channel @ 8 ohms, 20-20k w/.01% distortion
The Ultra 550 is 250 watts RMS per channel @ 8 ohms, 20-20k w/.01% distortion

Thanks Wayner , but I'm interested in the power at 4 ohm's.  My Magnepans present a 4 ohm load.
I'm looking for an amp that puts out 350-500wpc at 4ohm's.  I currently have the Magnepan 1,6's and may upgrade to the 3.6's.  These beasts require lots of high current power.  My current amp puts out 260wpc at 4ohms and its not quite enough when playing loud.

I'm also considering the Parasound Halo A21 which puts out 400wpc at 4ohms with very high current.

Thanks,
Larry

I believe the power doubles. So the 350 is about 320 per channel and the 500 is 500 per channel. Or you can get Franks bridge and run the amps in mono (you will then need 2 identical amps). Then you will have thousands of watts per channel. That will make the maggies bark.

Greyhound,
The AVA Operating Instructions that came with my 550 state "The amplifier will drive any rational speaker load down to and including two ohms of any design type as long as the five ampere quick blow output fuse rating is not exceeded. These speaker fuses are adjacent to each output and will pass a full power (280 watt/ch) music signal into an 8 ohm load..."

If Frank says the power doubles at 4 ohms, it does.

Lastly, Frank states that using an AVA Bridge theoretically quadruples the power of each amp. In this instance, a 550 would pass more than 1.1 kW per channel!

Frank also has a pretty fine, customer satisfaction based, satisfaction guarantee. Give it a shot before the impending price increase; you'll be more than glad you did.

Have fun,
Jerry
