Dyna 416?

Frank could you lend a little light on this Dyna 416? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220282553582&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123   I have a 416 and the C100 box. From the front it looks like a 416 but from the side, it does have a fan but no C100 plug and from the back it has ST 400? I though the ST400 had VUs or nothing and the 416 was the first one with LEDs or is it just a 416 face plate. I always have liked the looks of the 416, so much so my 550 is setting right on top of it in my rack. :smoke:

I am very suspect of this one.  First of all, it is an original Dyna St-400 chassis with a 416 faceplate.  Nothing ever left our shop like this.  I suspect the faceplate and "modified by Van Alstine" tag may have been transplanted from a different unit.  The 416, and our Double 400 upgrade, both had chassis plugs on the side for an external power supply box.  This unit does not.  The Dyna 416 had a black painted chassis. Any Van Alstine identification on the rear of the heat sink is missing.  Note that the power switch has been replaced - not by us.  Photos of the insides and the output transistor array on the back of the heat sink would be helpful.

Regards,

Frank Van Alstine
