Very sad news!

I had the pleasure of seeing him and DG live a couple years ago.  A sad day in music, indeed.

Found this on the front page of www.davidgilmour.com

"No one can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and my friend.

In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten.

He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound.

I have never played with anyone quite like him. The blend of his and my voices and our musical telepathy reached their first major flowering in 1971 on 'Echoes'. In my view all the greatest PF moments are the ones where he is in full flow. After all, without 'Us and Them' and 'The Great Gig In The Sky', both of which he wrote, what would 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' have been? Without his quiet touch the Album 'Wish You Were Here' would not quite have worked.

In our middle years, for many reasons he lost his way for a while, but in the early Nineties, with 'The Division Bell', his vitality, spark and humour returned to him and then the audience reaction to his appearances on my tour in 2006 was hugely uplifting and it's a mark of his modesty that those standing ovations came as a huge surprise to him, (though not to the rest of us).

Like Rick, I don't find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously."

Wright (and company) laid the foundation for a lot of todays' (and yesterdays') bands. These guys were experimenters (in more ways then one). Anyway, a nice resume of accomplishments for Mr. Wright. May he rest in peace.

This is sad news indeed. It is inevitable that the great bands of the era start to lose members to the ravages of time but 65 is young and Wright really did contribute to the sound of a band that it makes sense to say HAD a sound. I've had little time for Floyd post-Waters (though in one of life's awful coincidences, I was just listening to the Division Bell in the car on the way home oblivious to this news) but there's no denying the man contributed to the band over the long haul. David Gilmour's comments pretty much sum it up but I can't help wonder how Waters feels too. OK, Wish You Were Here is now going on. Peace.

Seriously, I wonder how many times I listened to this in an altered state of consciousness?

Man, this really has me bummed out.  I've never even remotely felt this sad due to a person I haven't even met passing away.

Wow, I didn't know that until just now. What a tremendous loss.
I got to see PF for the MLOR tour four nights in a row at the LA Sports Arena. I saw them again at the Rose Bowl for two nights of the Division Bell tour. Such a talented artist. Man, he could just play.
I am mourning not only the loss of such a gifted musician, but that I will never again be able to see this unbelievable band again as I have in the past.
RIP Richard. My best thoughts will be for his family tonight.

Very upsetting, especially for those of us holding out for one more reunion with the complete post-Barrett line up.

I watched Live at Pompeii last night, such an amazing film showing the band at the peak of their creativity.

RIP.
