In need of a CD-Player, need options
« on: 13 Nov 2003, 01:21 am »
I'm setting up a headphone system and in need of a cd-player.  Here is the current setup:

Proton 440 Turner (highly modified)
Melos SHA-Gold Pre-amp/Amp (highly modified)
Sennheiser HD600 or HD650 Headphone (not yet purchased)
Cardas Headphone Cable (not yet purchased)

So here is the question, for about $1k what would be a good cd-player.  The player can be new, used, stock, modified, solid state, tubed the playing field is open.  Thanks!

I think with that setup up the ack dAck should be perfect ($400) with the sonic cap change (think it is going into effect soon).  For transport, use what you like, DVD players on the cheap work good, modded work better but the Parasound belt drive transport we NYC'ers know is a good match.

RAM 25 (Music Hall 25 as modded by Dan Wright)

One of Scott Nixon's DAC's with a modded cheap Pioneer DVD

CIAudio DAC with power supply with a cheap Pioneer DVD.

Dan Wright offers mods for the CIAudio stuff as well.

I'd like to hear the opinions of others regarding the most synergistic combo of the typical stuff above.

And of course you'll need cables.  I'd like to hear recommendations here as well.
