Rumor has it the Mitsubishi 65” Laservue will retail for $7000 this fall.

The local hi-end shop is expecting to have it for demo at their new product showing early part of October.  This would be just before I make a decision on a display. They have Pioneer elite Kuro as well for some hopefully useful comparisons.

I just received an invitation from my local dealer to an open-house with Kuros and factory reps.  I thought I read in some business news that Pioneer had deep-sixed the Kuro line.

I keep hearing Pioneer is losing market share in the Flat panel area so I can understand why they might consider getting out.   However, the Kuro line is the best PQ out there, IMHO, so there's got to be a market for that, at least until OLED, lasers or something else supercedes it.  I have yet to see an LCD I thought was as good as the Kuros.

Hey guys I'm new to Audio Circle, but not to the audio and video world. My opinion is Kuros are the best I've seen, and Panasonic is the best bang for the buck. Maybe next year will be diffrent rumor has it Panasonic will be making the Panels for Pioneer, some say Sharp.

The Mits did not look very good at CES. I'd do the Kuro in a heartbeat. Oh that's right I already have.

if you want to save some bucks just buy the 800 series's from Panasonic. the kuro is only a little better in the blacks. Color sat is the same.

I thought I read in some business news that Pioneer had deep-sixed the Kuro line. 

Pioneer has stopped manufacturing their own panels, but they have not announced any plans to get out of the plasma market. IIRC, they are buying their plasma panels from Panasonic now.

It's my understanding that Pioneer are still making the panels for their current line up. Panasonic will start making them for the next generation.

That's what I thought, but according to this post on Audioholics, it's actually Matsushita who'll be making panels for both companies.

As for the topic of this thread, what's relevant to me is that the "Kuro Killer" is a 2009 model year product compared to a 2008 model year KURO.

Regardless, double the price ($5k for the KURO vs. $10k for the Panny) seems an awfully high premium for an additional 5 inches and slightly better blacks.  It's sufficient to eliminate the "killer" tag in my mind's eye, but that's just me. 

Rumor has it the 10g KURO (2009 models) will be significantly better than this year's model for the same or less $$$, but time will tell.

The 9G is better than the 8G, but retails for less.  If the trend holds true for the 2009 model KURO, the rather surprising price gap between the KURO and the Panny will be even larger, thus making the "killer" designation even less applicable IMO.

I already have a 110" screen and FP; my next display will be for a bedroom system to replace a CRT.  60" Pioneer Elite Kuro would do nicely, but maybe the Mitsu Laservue might be better.   My next FP could be Laser-based perhaps.

Nice!...I've heard there's a LED projector in the works. I haven't seen the laser TV yet. There should be one at the shop hopefully in November. Production doesn't begin till October. Mitsubishi is very hush hush about these units. They had all the technician sign a waiver not to give any detailed info about the laser TV.

I believe you're correct.  Per Answers.com,

Nevertheless, I believe the Audioholics poster's intent was to quell any notion Pioneer will be selling re-badged Panasonic televisions.
