Linn using Pro-Ject tone arm
« on: 10 Sep 2008, 04:36 pm »
I saw in this months TAS that Linn is using the Pro-Ject 9cc tone arm on the Majik LP12.  My question is what does this say about the offerings from Pro-Ject and Music Hall.  The Majik goes for a little over $3,700.00 bucks while the top offerings from Pro-Ject and Music Hall with the 9cc arm cost  $1,799 and $1,995.  All this while Pro-ject has a better arm in the 10cc.  All things being equal after seed control, proper isolation and comparable carts the Is the Linn worth the extra cash?

Perhaps Pro-ject has spent a little on tooling these arms and needs to peddle some to other manufacturers to help offset the costs. OEM costs to Linn must be attractive for them to jump on board and the arm quality must be OK, unless LINN is thinking of getting out of the LP business and shopping for an arm is cutting manufacturing costs. Quite a disparity in cost between the 3, I must say. I'm with Ricmon, where is the extra perceived value at in the Linn, other than brand loyalty (which the foreign arm may repel).
