Experience w/ O Audio BASH amps?
« on: 9 Sep 2008, 01:20 pm »
I'm looking into plate amps for a project I may do with a friend of mine. I was wondering if anyone here has hands-on experience with the O Audio plate amps? In particular the 300W model:

I'd also be grateful for any other recommendations for plate amps that work with 240V wall voltage.

Hey John,
I have zero knowledge about the o-amp so I won't speak of that one.

There's a bunch of fellas on the Hawthorne site in addition to here that really love the Rythmik PEQ370 sub plate amp.
I can't find reviews per se, but here's a link to some modding a few guys are doing along with a few "shining comments"  about the amp in general mixed in there.:

There's also a Keiga KG-5230 that gets good reviews.

Both amps are 110-240 switchable.

Personally, I use the typical Parts Express plate amp but it's not 240volts.
Hope that helps.

No hands on experience but you might check on HTG diy forum or on AVS.  I know a bunch of guys on HTG had good things to say about it.   I don't know if it is still the top recommendation for perf/$ but it was up there when I heard about it.

Cool, thanks for the responses. The Rhythmic 15" kit (w/ driver and amp) looks like an absolute bargain. I'll keep that in mind for a future project. Problem with the amp alone is that shipping is almost $100! One advantage of the BASH amp in that regard is light weight...

Would agree the rythmik does have a sonic edge on the o-audio, but unless I have a different version, the weight is roughly similar.

Ah..... well, you could be right on both counts, but the O-Audio amp shipping price to Australia is half as much - I just assumed lighter weight...!

I'm leaning towards a pair of the O-Audio amps right now, as they seem like good (at better) performance and quite palatable landed cost... will decide on the weekend!!

My first post at Audio Circle.
Here is a link to my test of the O-Audio 500 watt plate amp. They are very good units and I highly recommend them.

I own two subs with O-Audio 500 Bash. Each has dual 12" drivers. VERY nice!

John

I seem to remember that I sopke to the PE guys and they said there was a simple change to make the BASH amps 240V, maybe you could email them?

Finances put a stop to that project and I've now decided to just buy a 12" sealed Rythmik.
