FS: Omega Maxhemps
« on: 6 Sep 2008, 07:56 pm »
I've decided to sell my Omega Maxhemps (http://www.omegaloudspeakers.com/maxhemp.html) in Mahogany with black pedestals...I bought these speakers here on audiocircle a few months back (May 2008) from a fellow member.  They are in great condition with only the smallest scratch (~1") on the side of one of the speakers which I caused while moving a nearby component around (Ooops!!)...I was really hoping these would work for me but I just can't place them properly (due to my room and WAF) to sound as sweetly as they should/could driven by my Welborne DRD45 amps...They have incredible tone and excellent imaging due to their single driver nature...I tried them with a pair of paramour 2a3 SETs and they sounded better but I love that 45 tube and have gone back to my original speakers (Bastani Prometheus 100db/watt)...I just dont think 1.5 watts is enough for these 96db sensitive speakers to get the proper dynamics and impact...I've made three changes/improvements to them from their stock condition....First, I used Herbie's big fat dots (http://herbiesaudiolab.home.att.net/bigfat.htm) to couple the speakers to their pedestals (3/speaker)...Second, I replaced the 6 driver screws with 6 brass screws based on a suggestion from the Omega speaker forum...Third, I bought 2 high density foam balls to use as port plugs in order to tighten up their bass response...I'm including all of these items with the speakers plus the magnetic grills, of course...If you have any questions, feel free to ask....

MSRP is $2695 and I'm asking $1600 plus shipping (estimated at 150-200, I'll charge only the actual costs)....I'll accept money orders or PayPal direct bank transfers (+3%)...I have excellent feedback on eBay, audiogon, etc. and can provide references as I've bought and sold on here numerous times...I also live in SF, CA if you'd like to arrange for a local pickup and save the shipping costs...

I've posted pictures of them in my gallery here on audiocircle: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery

Have a great weekend...
Scott

Also, I've packaged these back up securely in their original boxes...3 boxes total (one for each speaker and one for the two pedestals)...

Thanks everyone....

Scott,

If you don't mind me saying, you've got an excellent system there. Probably excels in dynamics and tone especially. Something the fellas who are slogging with their 86 dB monitors wish for. There is no way...no way you can get inefficient loudspeakers to sound as dynamic as higher sensitivity speakers, be it horn or not. That 'You are there' feeling is just absent with anything less than 95 dB in my opinion.

Another idea for the ports is to fill them up with equivalent length straws, it makes port noise disappear and the flow is a lot more laminar. Remember air behaves like a fluid as well. I found this to be better than plugging up the ports in ported designs.

Good luck on the sale,

Anand.

Well gosh darn if I didn't sit around too long before listing these on audiogon and now I find out they've increased their prices to the point where selling a semi-big ticket item through them is going to cost an arm and a leg in fees (1.5%)...

So, I'm bumping this listing up and now willing to let these truly wonderful speakers go for $1500 and I'll split shipping and paypal fees...Better yet, pay cash and pick them up from my house in SF, CA and you can have them for $1450...

Bottom line, they're sitting all packaged up securely in their original boxes in our guest room and my wife is telling me every other day how much they need to find a new home...

any questions, let me know...
