I love a well played and recorded violin. I'm not familiar with Anne's music. She has quite a few releases, I'd like some recommendations on which LP. Are there any considered to be the best?

Her best LP is certainly her first two, the Beethoven Triple with Zeltser and Ma, and the Mozart/Bruch, both with the BPO under Karajan.  The LP's shouldn't be hard to find.

The teenage Mutter had a sweet tone and fine technique, along with excellent musical ideas.  Check her out.

I love the release with Penderecki's Violin Concerto No. 2 and Bartok's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2

Her performance of Penderecki's Violin Concerto No. 2 is unbelievably good!

I converted a friend that only listened to the Classicists and Romantics into a full fledged lover of Modernists with this!

This was the first Anne Sophie Mutter recording I heard, and it led me to be a big fan:

It is not the most realistic recording...it sounds like they put a microphone right on her violin, so that it stands out far more than it would if you were to see her with an orchestra in a symphony hall.  But it is a very dramatic performance (some say over-dramatic) which I particularly like on these musical pieces...

  • Without music, life would be a mistake.
You can get this whole set for only $33, excellent sound quality and very interesting performances:
