Goodmans triaxiom 212c and Coral 12 tet-1 for OB?
« on: 2 Sep 2008, 06:57 am »
Good day.

Am a newbie here. Just wondering if you guys can help me. I currently have a pair of Goodmans Triaxiom 212c and Coral 12 tet-1. both in very good condition. I was thinking of using this drivers in an open baffle configuration vs. a bass reflex or angular spiral enclosure. Read a lot of positives with OB, my only concern would be the size and the amount of floor space it would take up. Any thoughts from the experts here?

Thanks in advance.

Not that I know much, but I think the consensus here would probably be, "yeah, go for it". With the addition that many people are using bass augmentation, the only real question being when to bring it in. Shoot, it is so easy to do a test baffle even I can manage it. Punch a hole in something and stick in your drivers. Even a drywall board can work. Easy to model. Add cardboard with tape to adjust the shape/size and you're on. You've heard of it, now you gotta try it.

What exactly is the Coral tet-1? Do you have pics? Is it like a beta?

Hi Earl --

I used to have a pair of those Goodmans, and they did pretty well on an open baffle. I used the JELabs baffle; you can find plans here. Alternatively, you could use the Theile/Small numbers -- found here (one of the tweeters on my pair was blown) -- and any of the open baffle designers (I like MJK's MathCad worksheets) to design your own.

Best of luck.

Regards,
John

Hi Erik/John,

Thanks for your reply. I think the best way to find out is to really try these these drivers out in open baffle. Thanks for the links. is there a similar software that works on mac?

Erik, here's how the coral 12 tet-1's look. Borrowed the image from audiokarma but same as mine.

Also got the Goodman's axiom 300. Maybe I'll start with that one first. Just worried above the WAF if you guys know what I mean.

Again thanks.

The Corals look nice. I have been on the lookout for some Corals. Found a pair of 12" NOS FR Alnicos recently but want more. Let us know how they work out for you.
