I have the chance to buy one at a great deal, and I was wondering if it would be a big upgrade over my ERS'ed/Damped DVP-S7700. . .  Anyone got experience with this one?

Thanks!

If you want an improvement on your Sony, just send it and a check to Empirical Audio  :P

Seriously...Steve does a VERY nice job on this player.

He took a Dan Wright modded one of mine and made a significant improvement to it.  As always, YMMV.

In fact, I think he has one that he could send on a Demo if you give him a deposit.

I have not heard the Audiomeca Mephisto II transport so cannot speculate on how they would compare.

Hantra: is this the one you're looking at:

Personally I'd stay clear if the manufacturer sends it back and it still doesn't work. For five grand the guy paid new it should have worked. I've got an old Sony cd player from the eighties in the garage that works fine. It gets frozen in the winter and baked in the summer but always works.

OFF TOPIC:but why is the company called Audiomeca ?
I was under the wrong impression that the company was called "Audiomecca"--as in the Mecca or holy site of Audio  (kinda like Nordost's Valhalla cables). Anyone know the origin of the name??? I tried translating "meca" from French to English, but nothing came up.

Someone on AA offered this--"meca" for "mecanique" (mechanism)

Nahhh. . . This one's local.  I am a bit afraid of all the complaints I have heard about the reliability.  OTOH, this one works now.  I listened to it the other day.  I'm not going to buy it until I hear it in my system, and it'll have to be a big improvement. .

Thanks for the info. .

I have to applaud the audiogon seller for his remarkable honesty. It probably diminishes his chances of selling it. After reading his story, I personally find the treatment from the manufacturer appalling, and if I were the US distributer or dealer, I'd dump the product line, if all this is true. It's unfathomable that a company can put a $7000 sticker on a product that is unreliable, then charge the customer for repairs that were never made, and take its own sweet time returning it to the customer. What unbelievable arrogance! I wouldn't pay $70 for this product. If somone does buy it after the seller's disclosure, the buyer is definitely getting what he deserves.

A while back, I bought the demo model of the GamuT D200 used by the Absolute Sound for its review from the distributer, and it had problems with the fuse blowing. The distributer paid for shipping and the repair, but when that didn't cure the problem, the manufacturer/designer stepped in
personally and asked me to send it to him in Sweden (if I remember the country correctly) so he could look at it. To make up for my troubles, he sent me an entirely new unit of the latest model that included several upgrades, all shipping paid for. Now that's what I call customer service!

PS: it is still the best sounding solid state amp I've ever had.
