Can anyone suggest a good small size preamp or pre/dac to go with SB3 and TEAC?

I have an SB3 and a TEAC AL700P as my system with the SB3's built in volume control. I know using the volume control on the sb3 affects the resolution so I want to get a small form factor preamp or preamp/dac that is as close to 8" wide. Any recommendations? I know the benchmark is a possibility but the reviews Ive read make it sound cold.

PT2 does the fact that the TEAC is a digital amp affect the wireless capabilities of the squeezebox? Right now Im using it wired.

You might look into "used" NuFORCE P-8, or the Parasound Zpre2

I got the same system like your. My modded SB3 does not have volume control with outboard Attraction DAC and my Teac AL700P is modified by RWA. I use the modded Promitheus Audio Apollo preamp (tube buffer with TVC). The combination is nicely matched and I enjoy them everyday.

In your case you rather need a passive preamp and/or a tube buffer stage to warm up the sound of Teac IMO.

Good luck,

A used Bel Canto Dac/Pre with remote may be a good option to consider

Check out the City pulse - pre/dac/headphone amp with volume control.
Small in size - about 10"X11" and 2.5" high. Lots of features for the money.
Another one is Benchmark......on AgoN about $700 which is a steal IMO.

Cheers

look into the  PS Audio Trio line. I have the C-100 integrated and feel it's a great little amp.

I really liked the sound of a Burson Buffer with my BOLDER SB2.

It only has one input as I recall, but it fits the form factor requirement and has a superb cost/performance ratio.

I really like the sound of the teac but the vocals are a little recessed. I plan on getting it modded by bolder later. does the burson buffer have a volume control?

No, meaning it probably wouldn't be applicable after all.

Too bad.  If there was any loss of resolution with the Burson, it escaped my detection.

Mapletree makes some small tube preamps that perform well above their price point, IMO.http://hollowstate.netfirms.com/

Mhdt offers small line of DACs for moderate $'s that many find synergistic.  aa

I got rid of my tubes because of how hot it gets in my apartment during summer. I want something more energy efficient so Im sticking with solid state.

Second the PS Audio Trio series...also the Benchmark really isn't "cold" it is just very honest IMHO and could be a good option as well though no remote  :(
