It never stops, I know, and since acquiring the new components, I started thinking about speakers, which is contraindicative to my past practices, where my amplifier decisions were generally based upon my current or anticipated speakers. I like my Spendor S3/5, but quite frankly, their limits are illuminated with the Insight DAC, preamp, and amp. Even Norah's voice was a little strained under volume through the Spendor S3/5. With my Omega 50 and without the DAC, I never noticed any straining. Without the DAC, there were a lot of things, I believe, that I wasn't noticing (even though I believe that the JoLida JD100A is a fine CDP).
Then, I browsed upon a pair of Totem Mani-2, local to me, listed for 2600.00 on the 'gon. It's tempting, but they are purported to be a tough load to drive, producing very low impedances at low frequencies. My Insight 440EX was just delivered, and I am now wondering if I should have purchased the 440EXH.
On the other hand, there are a lot of other speakers the 440EX will easily drive (it might drive the Mani-2, for all I know) like larger Spendor and Harbeth speakers (I do have a love for the Brit monitors, obviously).
Nevertheless, if I were to do it again, I would have ordered the EXH.
A very noobie-type situation, I know.
