before I start cutting.........
« on: 14 Aug 2008, 06:29 pm »
about a year ago, I built a 2-way without any research, the 8" woofer under the 3" full-range, and the sound turned out to be magnificent, although bass shy. with a sub, that problem went away.
I just completed a 3-way, with new drivers, with the 10" woofer next to the floor, and the bass is still a bit shy.  I tossed the 2-way baffles because they resembled coffin lids   and will put those drivers on a new baffle.
question:  should I go with what worked before, woofer under the full-range, or put it at floor level?  with a sub, does any of that matter?

p.s.: the coffin lids resulted from trying to copy a jamo r909 from memory, without checking the picture  :duh:

A single 8" woofer on a OB will always be bass shy. So you will need a sub anyway. But I recommend to put the woofer at floor level, NOT next to the fullrange driver. Xover from woofer to FR should be anywhere from 300-500 Hz, to avoid bass cancellation by floor reflection.
