I'm brand new here and recently picked these two up on E-bay. I got em to do transfers of my step dads OLD family/band tapes to CD so he can actually listen to them again.
I used to have a Akai 4000dsII from about 77 new to late 80's when I finally went to cassette and cd's and vinyl. I used to set that bugger for each tape I bought but I finally never used it and the heads were pretty grooved so I trade it away.
Anyways I'm back into it and now I want to set these two machines up for the new tape I bought and several others I have coming. They both seem to play and record pretty well for 30 year old machines but of course the tape sounds a bit dull probably due to being setup for 211 tapes.
I have a reprint of the 270 manual and have been going through it. They have variable caps that is supposed to be the frequency response adjustment and variable inductors that are the bias leak adjustment.
I don't have a bunch of test stuff but I use the old school fm tuner hiss and set it by ear.
It really seem the caps make a huge difference going from dull to bright pretty quickly, the inductor didn't seem to change much when I adjusted it a bit.
It looks like the manual is saying I'm supposed to adjust the inductor first then touch up with the caps.
Right now the recording is sounding pretty good on the hiss test and on record/playback on hd fm
Just want to get it as close as I can in the right steps so any advice will be helpful.
So far I have only adjusted the caps and one inductor, plus the play back level pots to even em out, the heads on both are set to factory and paint is in place, both track other good old tape fine, love those glass heads.
If this is in the wrong spot move it where it needs to be, thanks.
