Connecting HagUsb to a Lite Dac AH
« on: 12 Aug 2008, 03:51 am »
With all of the talk regarding computer audio, I've decided to fool around with it a bit, eventhough I spend 95% of my time listening to vinyl.  I've purchased a HagUsb in order to connect my laptop to my rather modest, unmodded Lite Dac AH.  I know I'm in the S/PDIF realm, and need a 75 ohm cable with an RCA connector on one end (for the HagUsb).  It's the optical end of the Lite Dac AH that I find confusing.  What type of connector do I need in order to plug into the black plastic terminal that is on the Lite Dac AH?  Any help that can be provided will be much appreciated.

That's an optical input, or so it sounds like.

Yes, I believe that is correct.  I'll try to attach a picture of the input connections on the Lite Dac AH.  In any case, am I going to be able to connect the HagUsb via this optical input?

It just dawned on me that the coaxial digital input on the Lite Dac AH probably accetps the S/PDIF signal that I know so little about, and that I can probably connect the HagUsb directly to that input.  If I'm not mistaken all I need is the 75 ohm cable with RCAs on each end, probably just like the cable I already use to connect my old Marantz 63se to the Lite Dac.  Guess I'll give it a shot and see what develops.  If anyone out there can verify this I'd be most appreciative.  As should be quite obvious, I'm quite new to this computer audio genre.

All the best,

Yep, direct connect via the coaxial input worked like a charm.  Using Foobar2000 and ASIO4All to stream FLAC files from the laptop through the HagUsb to the Lite Dac AH.  Guess I've got to get a large external hard drive and rip my CDs to FLAC.  Seems pretty cool to be able to access all that music with a couple of clicks, although somehow not as satisfying as vinyl.
