Trumpet tube upgrade
« on: 11 Aug 2008, 05:56 pm »
Jim,

I'm thinking of upgrading the stock tubes on my Trumpet (2008 model), but I'd rather not swap them all at once (money, money...).
Is is best to change all the 12AU7s or the 12AX7s first, or only some of these?
Also, should they all be matched (4 x AU7s, 4 x AX7s) or by pairs?
Thanks.

Joel

Match in R/L pairs.  For tone, roll the X7s.  For dynamics, the U7s.

I found that the Sovetek's did a very nice job overall in this phono stage. I wound up changing out the first pair of each, but keeping the Sovtek's in the second spots.

Enjoy,
Bob

Thank you both for your suggestions.
I haven't heard the Sovteks, but I've heard a Trumpet with Telefunkens that sounded very good.
Cheers,
Joel

Telefunkens and Mullards are great tubes. Worth the extra money IMHO.
