This maybe the finest recording I have in my collection!

Today I received in the mail a record I bought on ebay. It's by a guy named Friedemann and the album is called Indian Summer. It's on the Narada label. This may be the finest recording I have ever heard regardless of what format. The reverb goes out to the park and the music is incredible. It's all instrumental featuring guitar, flute, some synthesizers but mostly acoustic instruments, like saxophone and Xylophone. I'd suggest that you get one right away so your can here what vinyl is capable of.

I brought this record over to Frank Van Alstines today when we went visiting, listening to it through his new Differential series preamp, amps and his Salk HT-3's. Very nice indeed. Hope your version is as clean as mine.

Well, I received my vinyl copy of Indian Summer yesterday and I really like it. I was coming in from some yard work and found it on the stoop. I needed to cool off so I grabbed a home brew and put on the new album and centered my chair. The sound stage was excellent and the music was interesting, to say the least, and very enjoyable. When I closed my eyes I kept feeling a large circle, kind of a canted plane of sound in front of me. I've never "seen" that before.
The biggest thing was how absolutely clean the record and the recording was. When I first dropped the needle there was no sound and I started to look at the preamp to see if I was on the correct channel and then the music started, and I was like Oh, OK, wow, cool. It's without a doubt the best sounding album I have.
The music kind of reminded me of an album I got when I bought a bunch of records as a lot. It's called: Rhythm Devils Play River Music: The Apocalypse Now Sessions. I think it's the mix of instrumentals that made the connection, but the Rhythm Devils play almost all percussion.

So, thanks Wayner, great pick  :)

My copy arrived... in a very small package.  They sent me a cd instead of vinyl.  The good news is that I got a refund and they said to keep the cd, the bad news is that the cd is slightly better than mediocre.

Well I joined the crowd and ordered a copy which came to day, record shops must be starting to wonder what the rush all of a sudden on this album is  I must say it's very nice  Great dynamics. I like it a lot now i have to go chase down some more. I haven't heard the cd so i can't comment on the transfer but the record is fine.

I just listened to Rodger Waters (from Pink Floyd) and his album, The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. It may have unseated Freidimann as the best. With the new speed of the Insight preamp and amp, the dynamics are getting really fast (and sometimes scary). Still both are great recordings.

Yeah, it's a great album!  :thumb:  Now you've reminded me, I'll listen to it tonight.  :D  Have you got one with the "bare bum" cover?  :o

Have you heard his next solo album, "Amused to Death"?  That's excellent, IMO (and recorded in Q-Sound).

Andy

Yea, it's the album cover with the chick bare-ass naked hitch-hiking. I have Amused to Death, but only on CD. I am trying to find it on LP. I have almost all Pink FLOYD on LP, the last 2 Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell were tough to find (that was in switch to CD format time) and I'm not sure that many LPs were stamped. I'll keep looking, Good call on his other album.

"AtD" is available on LP - I'm listening to it right now (after "TP&CoH"!!  :D )!  :thumb:  I like "DB" too.

BTW, have you come across this article about "AtD"?

OK, Wayner, I'm playing along. I snatched a vinyl copy of The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking off of ebay last night. I don't have any Rodger Waters music so I don't know what I'm in for. I am a big Pink Floyd fan so building my music collection and experiencing different artist's works is both fun and exciting to me.
I did receive the Freidimann CD yesterday as well. I thought it sounded great. A little different than the record but still great. When I lifted the needle off the record and switched over to CD I had to bump up the volume three clicks to get about the same level of music but then I sat down and there were instruments jumping out all over the place. It realy is an awsome album.  :thumb:

There will be some spots in the Roger Waters album that will be startling! Let us know what you think when you get it.

Took another listen to the "Indian Summer" CD, wife out shopping, played it with a Grant Fidelity B-283 processor between my cd player and pre, house quiet.... and it is definitely worth more than I paid for it .  I still put it above average, however, it doesn't make the list of my best recorded cd's. For a Doug Sax mastered album, my copy is below par.  I'll keep an eye out for the vinyl.

Also, I heard some eerie stuff on a Roger Waters cd in Danny Richie's living room on his prototype LS6's a year or two back.  I haven't come close to matching his system or room, but I'm slowly making progress.

I have 3 Friedeman CDs as of today
Indian Summer, Aquamarine and Legends of Light
Legends of Light was allot like Indian Summer. Aquamarine was somewhat different.
Perhaps it was the mood I was in, but I really enjoyed Aquamarine. Maybe more than the others. I only sat and listened to the first 4 songs before I got up and got busy. Great sound.
Thanks again Wayner

Cool! I have Aquamarine, too. I agree that it is similar to Indian Summer.

Andreas Vollenweider - White Winds arrived today, very interesting great sonics.  :thumb: I also picked up 3 Alan Parsons LP's, more great music, and a group of 7 including Rod Stewart, Elton John and George Bensen. I've been on vacation and and kind of busy trying to get some work done around the house and get ready for fall so not alot of time to sit and listen. Still, enjoying the new cartridge.
It's all good!
