Praise be to Hugh (and Ron).

Just finished my Aksonics, and they really are wonderful.  The depth and imagery is fantastic, as is the high end:  I've been entranced by the subtleties on cymbals, as well as upper harmonics on piano and guitar, that I hadn't heard before.  The mids and lows are great, though everything is still breaking in, so I suspect their character may change.  My main concern with low bass extension turned out to be a non-issue, as they reproduce lower register piano chords and acoustic bass notes quite well.  In all, highly recommended!

Anyone else have any experiences with tweaking the back panel/port size?

Hi Chris,

Thank you very much for your kind words!  I will relay your praise to Ron, who will be delighted!

I'm glad you mentioned the bass register, too.  I was well aware some would be more than curious about this aspect - it is a 6.5" driver after all - and it seems Ron has really delivered something which almost defies the laws of physics.

As you said, the standout is the imaging/soundstage, and the trueness of the harmonics of instruments like pianos and violins.  I'm delighted with my AKSonics (actually for the moment Ron and I share a pair which alternates between our homes) and I love the fact that we can adjust them to suit the room.

Would you be willing to consider writing a long term testimonial for the website?

Thanks again,

Hugh

Chris,

I have recently started my Aksonics project.  I am just waiting on the woofers.  I have narrowed down my choice of cabinet materials and finishes, but not yet committed to purchasing the wood as yet.  My veneering experise is the deciding factor on what I use.

What material did you use for the cabinets and what finish did you give them?  Any pictures?

I should have them up and running within a month as I have a few projects on the go.

I am looking forward to the improvement in my system.

Rookster,

I used 3/4" maple plywood and just finished with two coats of "Danish" wood oil - admittedly very spartan, but my flexirack and other pieces are all of that same construction.  I tend toward the minimalist look

Sorry, I don't have a digital camera, but I'll try to scan some pics in soon.

Good luck!

Chris
