Any more remote volume control reports?
« on: 6 Aug 2008, 05:37 pm »
My Insight pre-amp is in the works, and I was thinking about asking Mr. VA to add a remote control.  I only was able to locate a single review here.  Can anyone comment about the quality and durability of the remote volume control?

What I know is I wish I would have gotten it on my T8 (at that point we were still on a budget ), and that Frank spent considerable time finding one that would not effect the sound. He won't add features that degrade the sound regardless of any "trend". Others will have to comment on the durability, but again, it's a Van Alstine.  :D  8)

Absolutely no negative issues with our remote volume control.  It tracks perfectly, no field failures, it makes fine adjustments, and does not get in the way of the sound at all.  The only down side is the $299 cost.

I have had the Ultra Pre for many months with the remote and it works great. Short answer, do it, long answer, do it....The older you get, the better it works......

Thank you for your responses.

I'll ask Mr. VA to add the remote control to my order.

I'm with 10Ear on this one.  This is my second T-8 (upgraded a small chassis model for the new T-8 with the 6N1P tubes).  Got the remote on the new unit and I'm never going back.  It is well worth the money.

Agreement with all prior comments. Got one with my T-8 last fall, have one coming with the Ultra on order. Like all of Frank's equipment, a finely tuned & precise unit. Haven't had it long enough to speak to durability, but I think some of the recently posted pics of 'vintage' AVA gear speak to the long term viability of anything he builds.

You won't be sorry.  aa

I contacted Mr. VA, and he is adding the remote to my order.  Regarding durability, I was particularly interested in the sending unit.  I haven't had very good luck with remote controls for televisions, etc.  I'm sure that Mr. VA will carry replacement units, if necessary.
