BUMP, This must be the week for Kenwood turntable bargains. I just picked up a Kenwood KD-5077 direct drive turntable at a local thrift shop for $20.00. It seems to work fine mechanically, but the pitch control is a little finicky. It has fully automatic play that is defeatable and came mounted with what appears to be the original Kenwood phono cartridge. It has the simulated wood grain plinth and the dust cover only has a few scratches on it.

I am going to try it out this weekend. If it works good in actual play, then I will buy a good replacement cart for it.

As requested: two pics of my $20.00 Thrift Shop find, a Kenwood KD-5077 turntable:

It did not come with the AT record weight, or brush or other accessories in front of the table. It did come with the Kenwood logo phono cartridge and the Kenwood logo 45rpm single adapter. The metal Kenwood name plate is missing from the front of the pseudo wood base. I cleaned up the metal rim of the platter nicely using Turtle Wax automotive buffing compound, and I generally used a Windex type product to clean the rest of the table and dust cover. The old label glue was removed with Goo Gone.
The table works fine. I played three records on it tonight, but it could use a better cartridge and some damping tweaks.

I also picked up a Kenwood KD-3070 at a garage sale.  It appears to be in reasonably good condition.  I just ordered a AT 440 MLa cartridge for it.  It had an old worn out ADC QLM 36 mk III on it.

It is fairly heavy and from what I've read so far, Kenwood built, or loaded, the plinth with some concrete resin.  I haven't taken the bottom plastic shell off yet to inspect.

I see the A-T record clamp/weight being used below. Are these, or something similar, a worthy upgrade?

How about a platter mat?  ala ringmat, herbie, or other?

Is there anything to be done to enhance the tonearms?  vibration wraps, wiring, etc.?

I'm planning on fine tuning this to squeeze out as much latent potential as possible.  I have it on a maple butcher block so far.

Anyone have an owners manual or service manual for it?

Thx,
Kenreau
