FS: 6-channel volume control (DCX2496)
« on: 21 Jul 2008, 02:13 pm »
What I am trying to sell is a 6-channel balanced volume controller. It uses PGA2310 audio volume control IC's as well as OPA2227 input and output buffers.

The case is a durable black finish with a front panel mounted master volume and separate Ch1/2, Ch3/4, and CH5/6 gain controls. All potentiometers are Alps. The 3 gain control pots are linear RK16 and the master volume is a remote controlled log RK27 blue velvet potentiometer.

The volume control project is set up to run 6 channels using my boards or can be replaced with 3 stereo Kookaburra PCBs from Twisted Pear Audio.

The same schematic as the Kookaburra was used but with 2 volume controls and a summing circuit was added to incorporate master/individual channel gain.

I can not get the volume control to work so I am giving up. The multipot volume control scheme part seems to work up to the PIC microcontroller (0-5V control). After that the schematic models the Kookaburra except with 2 PGA chips from the same microcontroller. ExpressPCB was used for the board design. I have everything one might need to get this to work. I have more pictures that will help explain the design better. Please e-mail me for those.

I would like to get $200 shipped/OBO for this unit. I have invested so much time it hurts to give up.

Pictures of the this unit can be found in my gallery: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery&pos=0

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Hi Tyler

You loose all yr time put in it and probably money in selling an unfinished maybe never working unit ( which will force the price to be way too low, i think)

Why not put some dollars in bringing yr project to a qualified EE technician who will give you valuable  ( paid) advice or finish it for you?
:)

Kyrill, thanks for the post.  I myself and two of my friends are EE's.  It's the microcontroller that we can not figure out.  I think that is the problem.  I do not know anyone personally that could help me out on that end.

I want to simplify my audio system thus the reason for finally giving up on this unit.  I am willing to take offers if someone wants to take this project on.  I would be ecstatic if they could get it to work.

Please let me know if you ever get it up and running.  I've been thinking about putting one of these together for my DCX but don't trust my elextronic skills.

Good luck,

Jack

Can you tell me why you went that route with the DCX2496? (I own one too)

Why not use 3 of these and be done?

They are impedance matched level shifting coils.
Passive. Of course you can DIY them for a lot less.

Hi Andrikos,

When I started this project I was not aware of the product you mentioned.  The unit I was trying to complete would allow for a remote control to be used as well as a software upgrade if I could ever figure out PIC programming.

Great suggestion though, thank you!
