30.2 with Dali Helicon 800?
« on: 19 Jul 2008, 06:10 pm »
I've been going round in circles trying to choose a new amp to power my Helicons. I've always used tubes in the past, but now that my system is integrated with my home theater, I'm reluctant to stay with them.

It seems many have asked this question in the past, but I will go ahead and ask again. Will the 30.2 properly power such a large speaker? Sensitivity is relatively high at 89.5, but I am still a little concerned because of the amount of drivers (5) including 2 8" woofers.

I'm not one to blast out the neighbors, but do like to listen on the loud side when the mood is right. I did ask Vinnie and he says no problem, but I thought I would throw it out there and see what others think.

Between the voicing of your loudspeakers, and their employment of low energy loss drivers -  Vinnies 30wpc battery powered amp should have zero problems fulfilling your thirst for juice.  In fact, the Dali Mentor 5's had zero problems being pushed by the 15wpc Vista Audio integrated. Dare I say; it was quite the match.

Vinnie makes some good stuff.  I cannot imagine you being dis-satisfied with the sound. That said, I still strongly encourage you to check out options from McIntosh. There is a reason why those two show together....

Mike,

I could bring my 30.2 to your place to audition with your Dali speakers.  Sent you a separate email.
