Stillpoints ERS Temperature rating?
« on: 4 Nov 2003, 10:36 pm »
Does anyone know the rated temperature of this stuff?

I want to put it on the inside of my DAC, but I don't want to burn down the house.  How close can I put it to the tube, which sticks out of the chassis?

Thanks!

Hantra call up the folks at Stillpoint and ask them your question. They were very helpful to me when I called requesting product information.

Hi Hantra,
Don't know the tube(s) you use, but the skin temp of a 12ax7 used for line stages is about 75 to 90 deg. C, a 12au7 used for power is 95 to 120 and an EL 34 will run 220 easy.  Temps fall off very quickly, maybe 20 degs within a 1/4".  Dacron/polyester (in general) will start to tack up at about 110 to 120 deg. C and is melting (flowing) at 140 to 170.  Hope this helps...

Hi guys,

I just got off the phone with Paul of Stillpoints.  Essentially ERS can take upwards of 300 degrees before the polyester or adhesive starts to break down.

That being said,  I would not advise placing ERS too close to high voltage tubes.  Not because of the heat necessarily, but because of the fact that ERS IS conductive.

Cheers!
