I'm new to this forum, but after having glanced around the net it seems there are a lot of people within this forum who have hands (and ears) on experience with dipole/ripole subs. The project evolves around 16 10" woofers I got my hand on through a real bargain. The drivers are 50 Ohms versions of the Scan-speak aluminium 8567-1. They are going to supplement a couple of Phoenix dipoles from around 100Hz and downwards. I have contemplated both H and U baffle linear arrays, but I think I'd prefer stacked ripoles with the drivers horizontally mounted (Eight each side). I been reading around diy forums, but I haven't really come about anyone who has build something similar. It's mostly been drivers vertically mounted in W baffles, but I'd rather have the visual simplicity of stacked ripoles. My livingroom is approx 30m2 (5m * 6m). Everything is going to run through a software-based crossover using Thuneau's frequency allocator so a lot of EQ'ing is possible. My question is therefore if there is a acoustic reason that this mounting isn't that widespread? I'm mostly concerned about floor-reflections and cancellation due to unequal distance to the listening height. But I take it that it's not too important considering the wavelenghts involved. All inputs welcome.
