After installing Leopard 10.5.4 on both my G4 1.33 Ghz/Superdrive Powerbook and my newer 20" Imac, neither will recognize a just burned burned cd-r on the desktop. After I access a playlist, insert  and burn a cd-r, there is no icon on the desktop for the cd-r. I always have to restart the computer, and then the icon for the cd-r shows up fine. I've checked all my preferences and performed a PMU reset as suggested by Apple support, no change. There's lot's of discussion about this problem on various forums but I've yet to find anyone who has a fix. Anyone on this forum have any light to shed on this?

Just bought a brand new Powerbook and have the same problem but haven't tried to figure it out yet.  I'll let you know if I find out more but also hoping you find the answer and post here too.

West, Apple does not supply phone support their software. As much as I prefer Mac to Pc, their support policies stink. They are about as chintzy and parsimonious as a corporation can get. Unless you purchase their extended "Apple Care" warranty with your computer, you are SOL after 90 days. The only free ongoing support they offer is for .Mac and Itunes purchases (imagine that?) I wouldn't be surprised if this was a deliberate "feature" they've engineered into Leopard to make burning discs inconvenient for non Itunes purchases. I went by the Apple store and asked sales people about it, they all denied having heard about the problem. They did suggest I purchase some face time with a resident Apple "Genius" at the Genius bar. Sheez. I work with someone whose sister is an Apple "Genius," I'll see if she can shed in light on this.

You don't have to pay to see someone at the Genius bar...if you are out of warranty and they need to work on the machine there will be a fee, but thats it.
