Actually, The Audio Critic review (scroll down past the CD/SACD reviews) has a link to another site with the extensive review and suggestions for possible mods, such as force mono, disable backlight, alignment, reduce distortion, etc.  Interesting article.

Yea, I've read that. All good ideas, and hopefully they (and some other changes) will be made in a stock unit...one that is a bit bigger, with better ventilation.  8)

here's a recent post i made re: the sony f1 hd tuna.  (from a thread where others have posted about this tuna.)  and, a few other comments - according to brian b, whose website i reference in the post,  (and a few other folks over at the yahoo fm tuna forum), it kicks the sangean's butt in performance, & the sangean's being able to use a dac isn't much help.  (i have not tried the sangean, so this is not my personal opinion.)  and, if you elevate the f1hd, you will get measured cooling reduction of ~15f at the top vents ...

I use my Sony tuner daily, and like it a lot.  I've hear one interesting attribute.

The local classical station, Seattle's KING FM, broadcasts in HD, and it sounds great, except I think I can hear excessive amounts of compression.  Compression is good when driving due to the ambient noise in a car (especially most the cars in my family fleet).  Over the HD broadcast, though, quiet passages have too much noise.  The noise floor here is much higher than when the announcer is speaking, for example.  I've emailed KING, but no response.
