Anybody try a KCI Digital cable?
« on: 30 Jun 2008, 10:42 pm »
Has anyone ever tried a gold wire digital cable from John?

I have his Silkworm IC's now and they are absolutely outstanding.  Most significant addition to my system since the 36.5.

Yes.

I have an older version and it is clearly a step up from the cryo'd VH Audio Pulsar with Silver NextGen connectors that I was using previously.

I can heartily recommend John's digital ic.

I'll try to write something up soon and get it posted.

I look forward to your comments. I have been looking to upgrade from the pulsar myself and been curious about the kci digital.  The analog rca's have been getting great writeups but have not seen a detailed view of the digital versions

I had the pleasure of reviewing the Firefly, Mandarina, and Silkworm not long ago.  Good stuff.  If his digital cable is up to par with its fellow cousins, which I suspect it is,  - I'd say its a safe bet to assume its a top shelf performer.

Balanced set between DAC and Preamp.  Bass is more prominent, more 3 dimensional sound and wider soundstage.  Lots of body and soul.

I've had nothing but Silkworm's in my system for a good while now, and have sampled many other of John's cables...they are exceptional....and the fact that he's not half bad to deal with is the bonus!  Kudos John!

BTW, looking to move up to a heavier gauge of silkworms from pre to amp, anyone interested in a 1.5M pair with Furutech Rhodium rca connections?  Drop me a PM.

Hi Everyone,

I apologize for my absence, a while back I fell off of a shelf in my house and broke several ribs(in two different places!) and ruptured
my spleen, so, I've been laying low for a while. It was a stupid stunt and reminded me very quickly that I'm not 20 yrs old anymore-dammit.
Man, talk about painful but I have to admit they've given me some really nice narcotics to ease the pain! :thumb:

Hi BRM,
Glad to hear you are enjoying your Silkworms. I was going to point you towards a couple of people that use the gold digital cable(Pegasus)
but I see that a few have already spoken up here. If you have any more questions/requests please don't hesitate to contact me anytime.
Thank you for the compliments on the Silkworms too!

ArtS,
You're not to bad to deal with either, well......

Hey George,
I was wondering about you, glad you are digging the Pegasus!

That cable(no name for it) is still produced and should you ever need one just let me know. It isn't made with a bunch of exotic stuff like
gold or platinum, I use off the shelf components, hand assemble it using WBT silver solder and put a nice cover on it. It is a shielded coaxial
cable and it performs well above it's price point($99/1M). Great little cable that is nice & smooth and leans a step or two to the warm side of neutral.

:o  Wow Pete, looking to invest in the gold market huh!!

Best to everyone,
John

Hi John

Hope you have a speedy recovery! It must realy hurt!

I have the Pegasus digital cable and find that the sound is silky smooth and analog-like. It must be the gold content that gives the cables this quality. As I have previously reported, the Stereovox was a bit bright sounding in my system and in the long run tended to cause fatigue.

I second the views here that John is one great guy to deal with - very knowledgeable and helpful!

Best Regards
Dennis

decide to go "all gold" in your system!!

Best,

I may be interested in these as I am thinking about moving my rack to the center of the action so I can get more Silkworms in the system.  Buying a 4 meter set is kinda crazy even for me.  Moving my rack means restricting my access to the room and means running power to 5 components 8 feet from the nearest dedicated outlet.

I may build a distribution box with some nice outlets and copper foil wiring. :green:

Hi Lee,
Thanks for the well wishes, starting to feel better now. I may try and give you a call today if I can get away from the soldering iron for a bit.
