Foreign Films.

Hey!

OK, first I have to confess that I'm not a movie buff.  :icon_lol:

But still somehow I manage to see some great foreign films. It was kind of fun and a relieve from most of the usual Hollywood movies

Here are some of the films I saw and maybe you will like them too....

1. "Metropolis" One of the classic films of all time. :D

2. "Cinema Paradiso" Brilliantly done film. One of the most memorable film of all time for me. It made me weep a bit.  :icon_lol: This movie made such an impression on me that I actually took a movie making class not long after I saw this movie. Sadly, movie making wasn't for me

3. "Delicatessen" What can I say about this movie? It is just damn fun to watch  A visual feast for your eyes. Strange movie but fun to watch.

4. "Diva" Great story of a mixed up tapes. Stylishly made.

5. "Ran" Visually stunning! I wonder what it will be like if they release this film on Bluray disc :o

Well, there are a few more that I've seen. But I haven't watching lots of movies lately so there are more modern foreign films that I haven't seen yet.

Anyway, what your favorite foreign films? Oh! BTW.... I guess is won't be foreign film if it happen  to come from your country right?

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

My favorite/most memorable of any film is "The Red Balloon" by Albert Lamorisse (French). It is a very short film from the mid 50s. It was just reissued on DVD which I bought. I saw it first when I was about 9 years old - I'm 41 now.

Many of the films mentioned in the posts above are among my favorites as well.

I'm French(Canadian) so most of the films previously mentioned aren't really foreign to me.
I watch a lot of foreign films but can never seem to remember the names however here's a few worthwhile ones that spring to mind.

Old Boy(weird)
Audition(weird and gory)
Amores Perros(Love is a Bitch)
City of God
The Bothersome Man(very very weird)
The Lives of Others
The Kite Runner
Persepolis
The Orphanage

Hey!

Frank, I've seen a couple of French films and I do enjoy watching them. :D There is something different with French cinema in general that set them apart from the rest.

I do have a lot to catch up with when is come to French films especially with newer one. :D

Ugetsu...(1956) B and W from Japan.  Incredible visuals and absolutely superb storyline.
The Lover (1991?) French, as I mentioned in the other post.
A coeur en hiver (1993?) French.  Excellent tension among the three actors.
Heine (1995?) French.  B and W.  Talking about bad ass relations among the French and the people in the inner cities, or suburbs.  Awesome.
Manon and the Spring (1990?)  there is a companion movie, they are parts one and two.  You have to watch it to really understand how well written or compelling the themes are.
The Official Story (1985?) Argentine.  Talks about the human cost of the dirty war in Argentina (when the Military dictatorship disappeared many people who were suspected to be leftists.)
La última cena (1976) Cuba.  A portrait of a Cuban sugar plantation as its slaves revolt and overrun it.  Heavy in symbolism.
Failan (2001) Korea.  Well made story of a small time crook and his "relationship" with his wife, who marries him for papers and him, for money.
Chi-Hwa-Seon (2002) Korea.  The story of a master painter of the Choseon period and his quest for perfection.  Extremely well made, with good explanations of what artists from the period thought about good taste and arts.

Hey, sorry about the silly comment guys, seemed funny last night.  (At least I didn't mention aliens, they're foreign aren't they...tho I haven't seen any alien films, afaik.)

Now I'm motivated to check out some of the films mentioned.

I've missed watching more foreign films, the last few years middle age has gotten to my eyes. I only speak/read english well and can't keep up with subtitles and focus on the video as well as before. But I was into alot of Euro dramas and wild Japanese war films in the past.

I really enjoyed Queen Margot, a French film based on an Alexander Dumas book of the same name.  Not exactly historically accurate, but one of my favorite films all the same.
