I picked up a  SA-XR57 the other day to fool around with, with my OB towers I'm building (putting together is more like it).  Is there anyone that does modds to these anymore?  Wayne doesn't I checked with him first.

What didn't you like about the sound of the stock unit?  I really like the stock voicing of the Panny's (mine's SA-XR55) driven by a good spdif digital signal and don't want to alter the basic tonality, balance, and gestalt of the unit at all myself.

How are you converting yours?

I am using two of the XR700's in my CS2 system.  I have not yet modded the Behringer but should have that done soon. Using the switch-box-.com 3xSpdif, I will be able to 'maintain' the digital signal all the way through to the speakers.  The input will be from a digital out on a Duet into a Neutrik NADITBNC-MX that will plug into the "A" slot on the crossover.  I have high hopes for this setup, although I have not completed the mod yet.

Jon, I am coming off of a Musician III SE (don't need all that horse power for 98 db eff speakers) and the first thing I miss is the bass.  So if the modds are reasonable if will be fun to give it a go.  jkelly thanks for the link

LOL   I used to own the original Spectron Musician and have listened to various Spectron versions over the years, so I'll agree with you you're not going to get the Spectron bass with Pannies, but what other amps will?

I *will* say that using the Lessloss power cord on my Panny via adapter does wonders, especially for the bass..

Doug has already done the dcx mods for a digital in/2 digital outs and he is now offering the Panny
Mod with a custom 2 digital in board and biamplifier mode with 4 amps running.

I have listened to the ASi modified XR57 on several occasions and it is an excellent performer.

ASi showed at AKfest '08 and the modified XR57 was the amp that was used in their system.  It sounded excellent and many people in attendance couldn't believe that they were listening to a receiver. 

The XR57 is pretty good in stock form but can be taken to another level of performance with the correct modification.

So you think that getting this power cord would be better than some other type of "power conditioner"  that I would then be able to plug in my Behringer, Squeezebox, and other pieces of gear?  Just curious as they are over $500 each and I have two of the Panasonic XR-700 units as well. 

I am excited about the CS2's and trying to get the best sound out of the Panasonic units.

Well, some places sell that same adapter for many times that price after cryo'ing and audiophile markup if that makes anyone feel better  aa

The adapter seems to have no trouble letting you hear the difference with each power cord change, though.

And guys, I'm not saying it *has* to be the Lessloss cord.  I've used other cords with Panny with great results, including Black Sands Violet Z1, Audience, etc.  I certainly wouldn't insist you buy a $600 cord at new retail for a Panny, which you could have picked up for like $200 on sale.  Just don't use the stock Panny cord, which appears to be unshielded 16 AWG cord..

What type of power cord termination plug is used on the Panasonic receiver units? I have the XR-700 but assume they are all the same.  The plug looks kind of like a infinity symbol with one side vertical for orientation. I am just curious of the specific name of this type plug so I can speak more intelligently about it when trying to order a new power cord. This seems to be the next step to improve the XR-700.

Panny's termination is C-8.  A "normal" audio IEC is C-14, thus the C-8 to C-14 adapter necessary.

I am not looking to get a power cord that requires and adapter but to get one that already has the correct plug installed on it to start with. These should be available,correct?

That connector is know as a C7 or C8.

Cardas does offer such an AC cable



Not many other small power cable manufacturers offer this as the connector does have to be molded in place.
