Cast iron is really a necessity if you like to grill. They handle the heat all day with nothing to worry about. They are great on a gas stove, also (when seasoned properly).

Those seem awful cheap, I wonder if they're extremely thin?

I bought my cast iron at a place in WI called Fleet Farm. I've also seen it at local hardware stores. Mine is all Lodge. Large and small frying pan, Dutch oven, griddle. It's all I use.

If it's heavier than Lodge you'll need 2 people to use it.

The pans Dan linked to are 6" & 8" & 10" and Amazon shows a shipping weight of 12 pounds for the three of them.  :?

Yep, they are definitely not in the same class as Lodge or even Emrilware. Butif you just want to give cast iron a try they're worth the price.

You might want to look at Cajun Cast Iron.  They make an amazing array of cast iron cookware including crackling cooking cauldrons.

I bought two from The Home Depot a few years back. They also came with the wooden 'thing' you set the pan on ('trivet' I think it's called?) and they also had the potholder "socks" that slide over the handle as well. They seem to have held up very nicely. Don't remember what they cost, but I recall them being fairly inexpensive. I'd have bought more, but they only had the two.

Wipe the pan with meat fat (oil is a poor second) and heat in the over at 200 degrees for a couple of hours.   Never wash with soap, take care to not overheat when empty.  Re-season as needed.

Thanks. How do you wash it if you don't use soap?
