Issue 16 of TONEAudio ready for download...
« on: 25 Jun 2008, 01:13 am »
Hello All:

It will be up on the site later this evening, with a table of contents,
but if you would like to download it now, here it is:

http://tonepublications.com/MAGPDF/TA_016.pdf

We have some fun music stuff and the reviews are almost all
analog, with plenty of cartridges, phono preamps and turntables.

Enjoy and thanks again for reading!

Another excellent issue Tone Audio gang!  Amazing amount of content you generate.  All killer, no filler...

I really like the broad spectrum of music along with covering artists and concerts.

Your photography is the best in the industry and the equivalent to HiDef imho.

Looking forward to reading the Dave Wilson interview in complete detail.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks,
Kenreau

Excellent issue!  This is my favorite so far.  I appreciate the Harbeth review...  I own these speakers and really like 'em.

I read with interest the Wadia iTransport review.  I recently got an iTransport myself, and think Jeff's review of it is accurate.  Certainly the sound quality is significantly better than what has been available to date from the iPod at a reasonable cost (as Jeff notes).

The point which I thinks deserves more consideration is how the iTransport stacks up against a music server based system. With a music based system, you can certainly store much more than you can with an iPod.  Manipulating song is much easier on a music server.  And if you set up a Mac mini based system, the cost for that is not much greater than the Wadia + iPod.

The iPod/iTransport on the other hand offers certain advantages--your friends can bring their music collections over (via iPod), as Jeff notes.  Equally important (especially for me), I can drop the music in the Wadia when at home, take it with me in the car, listen to it on the go, etc.   So the Wadia certainly improves sound quality if you want a single device.  Also, you don't have to sit in front of a computer to access your music.

I'm not trying to start a flame war, just a discussion.

Well done, again.

But the 48M file is too big!!  My high speed connection/computer at home stops at 30M (page 103) and it took the better part of an hour to download that much!!  Even the e-mail at work is limited to 30M and we have a T-1 connection.

Sorry about that, but we can't make it any smaller and keep the quality where it is.

I get most of my other magazines electronically through Zinio, and most of them are
45-60mb.  If you have a high speed connection, it shouldn't be taking an hour to download.

Our server is capable of doing almost 1000kb/sec download, so on a fast connection,
it should download in 2-4 min.

I've been downloading HD music files (200-400mb) here in about 4 minutes, so not
sure what your bottleneck is.

Again, my apologies.

If you would like, you can get it twice a year on CD for 20bucks.

Just let us know!

I have had no problems DL'ing this issue, in the past I have.
My compliments, very slick looking and great content as usual.
I'm moving away from paper rags completely.
I only get Bound for Sound and of course Stereophile because it's cheap.
