Plinius SA-102 Vs Moscode 401HR
« on: 24 Jun 2008, 10:13 am »
Hi Friends,
This is my first post on this forum. I am stuck between a choice and I just hope that I get some info out here.

I am currently planning to buy a Plinius SA-102. I love the Plinius sound.
But a friend of mine has also recommended a Moscode 401HR which I have never auditioned anywhere and dont have the scope to listen anywhere. I am using a Dyanudio Contour 1.3SE. If anyone has any kind of experience with these two amps please share your opinion and please feel free to suggest between the two.

regards

Hi,

Sorry I haven't heard either amplifiers.  You really need to judge this for yourself and listen to an amplifier in your system.  Trust your own ears.

Buy what you have already listened and liked. Never marry a 'stranger'  8)

The Moscode is a nice amp but I'd go with the Plinius this time around.

The Moscode is a nice amp as stated here....but your key phrase to me?  "I love the Plinius sound" there's your call right there.... :thumb:

I'll pile on once again.  I have found out that I prefer a very detailed (not fatiguing) sound over a warmer, lusher sound.  I want to be sure all the sounds come through and if I choose to, I can throttle that back through cabling or perhaps some tube rolling if the equipment handles it.  So if you like what a Plinius gives you then you should go there immediately.  Only not with the Moscode was a slight tubbiness to the bass and it absolutely rolled off the highs.  I'm in the camp now that tubed pre and SS amp is a great methodology.

I've owned the SA-102 for over two years, it has been mated to a ARC LS-26. IMO, it is one of the nices tube /  SS combinations around.

The beauty of the SA-102 is that it is switchable with respect to its bias (A vs A/B) on the fly.

The mere fact that not that many come up on the "Gon" and when they do they don't last long, that should tell you something.

Try to audition them both in your home.  Then and only then will YOU KNOW what works best in your system.  Buying a piece of gear shouldn't be a crap shoot or matter of someone else's opinion.

The Dyn's are somewhat fond of current... I'd go with a Plin' if It was to drive one of their monitors.
Especially one of the 1.3 SE's !!!

Moscode does have an audition policy
