Leben CS-300 tube rolling with Zu Druid's
« on: 23 Jun 2008, 07:29 pm »
Hi all

I have been reading with great interest what some of you have been doing with tube rolling in the Leben (CS-600) integrated. denjo & selfdriver have been waxing about the absolute necessity to 'roll' if you own a Leben. See http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=49214.40

I have the CS-300. Can I use the same tubes (winged C 6L6GC, C EL34 and Sylvania NOS) in this amp as the CS-600? I read here somewhere, someone almost frying his tubes in a Leben as he used the 'wrong wattage' type??

I am considering trying the C EL34 which I understand from the above thread is extrovert & prominent with mid-range warmth. The other thing about this tube is the highs come forward, which I think will complement the Druid 'speaker.

Cheers

No, the CS300 is an EL84 amp.

Ooops  I see - so it's only the EL84 I can use then.

Is there much of a difference in EL84 brands when it comes to sonic characteristics? And would it be more advantageous changing out the pre-amp tubes?
