Omigod - a pair of Shahinian Obelisks!! Okay, that speaker is a living legend, and still very competitive in its price range today. I live too far away, I'm a dealer, and I'm a speaker manufacturer, so I'm not a potential buyer - but they are going to make somebody very happy.

How far from the wall(s) do you recommend they be set up? I'm under the impression that their angled geometry allows them to go closer to the walls than most omni and quasi-omni types, but that's just a guess.

If someone outside of driving distance really wanted a pair, could you provide them with dimensions so they could build padded wooden crates and ship them to you, and then you could crate and ship the speakers back? Do you think that foam-lined wooden crates would work?

Sorry Local Pickup only....I don't want to be responsible for shipping these beauties. Also I would like the buyer to audition them so they will be completely satisfied.
In my system....the speakers are about 2' from back wall. What is really nice, for us old folks, is that the speakers are on casters and easy to move for proper position. I wish I could afford them....will be sorry to see these go.

By the way.....also have a pair of Shahinian Arcs in Oak.....but they need new Passive Radiators (one is completely missing)....they are $500.00

Dee, not wanting to divert the FS aspect of this thread, but if you have the room the Obelisks should be placed a bit further away from the walls. Depending on room shape and size near 3' might be better. Also, if possible, try to maintain as near an equilateral triangle shape as possible between listener and speakers. Putting the speakers a bit closer together is okay, though. I owned a pair for a number of years; they make sweet sweet music.

Sounds like a dream speaker for someone who does not want to mess with room acoustics and does not want to be confined to a sweet spot and want an easy placement in a living room.

.....one of the BEST speakers at any price. They would be considered in EXcellent condition except for pulls in top grille clothe.....which can be easily replaced.They are on casters and can easily be moved for BEST position when in use. They are Walnut veneer. They are about 10 years old....and used sparingly with high end equipment. Bump for one of my all time favorite speakers!

I have fond memories of sitting and talking and listening with Dick for hours and hours at CES (he always used Bedini gear, IIRC). He has the most amazing encyclopedic knowledge of classical performances of anyone I've ever met. The good old days!

In any event, a friendly bump--someone should buy these NOW!

General Information about repair from Shahinian Service .............. Sahinian Arc (SOLD)

Passive Radiator

In the event due to time or external elements, the annulus of the passive radiator (that 10" circle in the back) deteriorates and needs to be replaced, you have 2 options:

1. We can send you a kit and you do the work. We only recommend this if you are handy and can tell the difference between a screwdriver and a chisel. Send us a check for $275 per pair along with your name, address and daytime telephone number, and we will ship you replacement passives, glue and replacement instructions.

2. We do the work. For those of you who aren't handy, don't worry. We only charge an additional $50 per pair for the labor, for a total of $325 per pair plus shipping. Ship us the speakers with a note containing your name, address and daytime telephone number, and we will contact you after we receive them.

Arc grilles can be recovered for $25 each ($50 per pair) plus shipping, or replaced entirely for $40 each ($80 per pair) plus shipping. For recovering, simply send the old grille to us. Available colors are black, brown, light brown, almond, bone, driftwood and white.

Modifications / Upgrades

Arc

The only update available for the Arc is a woofer replacement. This involves replacing the older American spec woofer with a new Norwegian spec one. The upgrade includes all the necessary woodwork including enlarging the hole on the top baffle to fit the slightly larger basket of the new woofer, as well as a modification to the woofer leg of the crossover. Since the crossover, mid and tweeter are very similar to current technology, there is no real value in any further modification.
