How many Lessloss power cords should you buy?
« on: 17 Jun 2008, 02:17 pm »
For those that have the $350 per power cord deal, I would like to offer some possible guidance on how many to buy.  I tried a Lessloss pc on 4 items-preamp/dac, cd transporter, Lingo power supply, and Lehmann Black Cube(power supply).  My system is Linn/Ekos/nude Archiv/Lingo, APL Denon 3910 transport, Oritek OMZ DAC(preamp/dac), Nuforce 8.5 V1(with V2 power cords) amplifiers, SOTA Time Domain 4 speakers.  Current wires are: APL MK 111 interconnects between transport and preamp, and between Lehmann Black Cube and preamp, Valab solid-silver interconnects between preamp and power amps, Acoustic Zen double-barrelled Shotgun speaker wire for biwiring.  I use maple, myrtle, Bright Star Audio, Mana, and Brass for equipment support.  ASC tube traps, RPG abfussor, Cathedral Sound Panels, and DIY diffusers for acoustics.  Other power cords used for comparisons were the Volex 17604 and Valab(which is silver).  I tried to read a little about other people's experiences with the Lessloss pc's(I noticed that Tvad's great information on this was gone.).  I also have a friend(Alan) who is going to compare Tel wire to Lessloss, but haven't received any information on it.  I used my one Lessloss on my preamp/dac-and I believe that is the best place if you have one Lessloss.  That does not mean this applies for all preamps.  The second best place I tried was on the cd transporter-and I would say this one is a must-have, unless you have one that is noticeably better than the Valab or Volex.  The Lessloss was in a different category than those two for the transport.  Less successful, and in fact, I preferred the Valab, was the Lingo and the Lehmann Black Cube.  I was going to say that Lessloss was better for digital than for analog, until I thought about it.  Both the Lingo and the Black Cube are power supplies, and the electronics inside were designed to filter the AC-so I think that is why the Valab was a better match here, because the Lessloss filters the AC.  The power cords were plugged into dedicated lines.  I also bought 2 more Lessloss pc's for my amps based on good reports, but won't be trying them for awhile.  I'm hoping that this saves money for people who planned on getting the Lessloss pc's for all their equipment, although, at that price, some may still get all Lessloss and sell what doesn't work well.  I will try to update this when I try them on my Nuforce's, and get Alan's take on Lessloss versus Tel wire.  I should mention that the sound was too dark with the Lessloss when used with the Lingo and Black Cube.  I also didn't try to optimize the cord layout in these tests.
