Is this a good deal??
« on: 17 Jun 2008, 01:23 pm »
Hi All:

I just saw this on Craig's List...  A used Sony PS3 60gb Chrome Grill.  This is for the system only.  The seller wants $325.  Assuming all is on the up and up, is this a good, very good or just average deal?  To be honest, I have been sitting on the side lines waiting for BR players to go down in price and I have not researched different brands or their respective pricing.  Am I wrong in assuming I would also need a receiver to take advantage of the new audio formats or does the PS3 do this internally?

Thanks,

The PS3 60GB is valued by some because it has hardware for compatibility with PS2 games and has the ability to play SACD audio. The newer models (with the 40GB drive) don't support the older games and don't support SACD. The audio capabilities for Blu-Ray should be the same between the various models.

If you don't care about PS2 games or SACD, I'd suggest getting one of the newer 40GB models. I believe that they run slightly cooler (and quieter). You can get a brand new 40GB model for $399.

If you do care about PS2 games, the 60GB model for $325 is a good deal. New ones are going for $600+.
