Recommendations for new LP gas grill???
« on: 15 Jun 2008, 07:53 pm »
Well, my trusty Great Outdoors LP grill bit the dust after +10 years of faithful service.   Damn screws holding the brass burner and venturi just rusted completely, the surgery was unsuccessful.  It was a faithful servant and will be missed.

Anyhow I am looking for recommendations on a replacement double or triple burner LP gas grill.  I don't need anything real fancy.  I need ~ 500 sq. inches of cooking service, +40,000 btu's, w/ brass or stainless burners.  Preferably something where parts (venturi, grates, etc.) can be easily replace.

I am leaning toward a Weber Genesis E-310 or E-320 and would like to keep it under $1,000.  Your suggestions would be appreciated.  Also, I have a pretty small concrete pad near my back door to park the grill.  Nothing over 30" deep and 60" wide.  Thanks.

Likewise, I heartily recommend the Weber's.  My 8 yr old Weber Genesis Silver B is going strong, despite the salt, heat, and humidity of FL.

I've had my small single burner propane CharBroil for 20 years and have replaced the burner element 3 times. It's got dual cast iron grills and I use diamond lava rocks. It came with a set of wheels and I placed a second set on for better maneuverability. Being single, this is all the grill I need and it has held up well thru year round use. Just a matter of going to the hardware store and getting a good steel brush to clean them cast iron grills after each use and taking the vacuum cleaner to the inside regularly so to help preserve the burner. I made the mistake of not doing this early on and my first burner didn't last but a few years. I don't let that crap build up anymore and my latest burner has lasted a good 10 years now. 2 other things I do is let the grill burn hot for 15 minutes after I'm done to completely burn off any residue and after I've brushed up the grills, I recondition them with Pam for the Grill so they're ready to go next time w/o any rusting. Take good care of your grill and it'll last a lifetime. :thumb:

Cheers & Happy Father's Day,

I would go with the Weber also. I've had the silver B model fors six years and it's great. I use it 12 months a year in New York and I've had no problems with it.  I also had a Charbroil for a couple of years but I find the Weber to be much better in just about every respect.

I have the Weber Genesis Silver Grill (3 burners), my last Weber gave me great steaks, chicken and ribs for 12 years.  The Weber cannot be beat for the money and once you learn to cook according to the Weber system you will have great BBQ every time.  Other grills seem to end up at the curb after a few years.  They cost a few bucks more than the cheap grills but they are worth every penny and customer service is terrific.  Happy grilling.

We own a Weber Genesis Platinum grill (4 years old now) and it is an extremely well built grill.  It also has good temperature control and will reach higher temperature than many other grills.  It has a well designed stainless steel grate.  We could not be happier.  Several friends have bought these since seeing ours and they are grillin' fools now!

FYI - we ordered our thought our local family owned ACE hardware store.  We got a good price and they put it on the truck for us...  Assembly was pretty simple, but does take a little time.

I have a Weber Genesis (Silver?  I don't remember...but it has 3 burners under the grill, plus an extra stove burner on the side) and upgraded the enamel grates and "flavorizer bars" with stainless steel ones.  Overall, I'm happy with it, although on occassion I wish I could get a little more heat out of it.  Also, because I usually start charcoal on the grates (with a chimney starter) for my Weber smoker, I do get a bit of ash floating around...this causes some of the gas holes in the burners to clog up, so if I forget to clean the gas holes, I sometimes don't get a very even temperature across the cooking surface.

Both my brothers use Webers - a great choice, hard to go wrong with one.

I love my Napolean PT-450RB though, and am unlikely to budge - 3 years running, and my brother's lasted him 10 before he succumbed to the lure of the Weber, for his 2nd serious Q.

I have owned several high-end gas grills over the last 25 years.  Two years ago I purchased a Grill Dome Cermanic Cooker and honestly I would never and I mean never go back to gas.  You have probably read the Audiophile Pet Peeves Thread and I guess grill preferences could be similar to audio system preferences.  However, if you ever allow yourself to try the food prepared on a cermanic grill you will be hooked and you will feel the same way I do about gas grills.

Enjoy whatever grill you end up with.

Well I picked up the Weber Genesis E-310 in black last weekend and had a Sam's Pro Smoker delivered too.

I pick up the Pro Smoker on the recommendation of a friend.  It's a heavy gauge stainless steel box that goes under the grates of your grill.  It worked great on a couple of steaks I cooked up earlier this week and can't wait to try it out on some ribs and chicken.  Here is the package I picked up along with a webpage link.   It works great and highly recommend the Sam’s Pro Smoker.

I ordered the Father's Day Special Sams Smoker Pro - Pack #3 - $ 62.95 + shipping.

The Pack includes:
Sam’s Smoker Pro 2- lbs of Sams Blended Gourmet wood chips
Sams Install and Removal Tool
Sams Recipe Book and instructions
210 cu-in bags of PEAR wood chips
210 cu-in bags of CHERRY wood chips
210 cu-in bags of HICKORY wood chips

It took about a week for delivery.   Here’s the link:
