I love this stuff. I hope more people by this new vinyl while I find the great old stuff at Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. :P

I just read that Wal-mart cut a direct deal with AC/DC (thru Sony) for the release of their next album exclusively and only thru Wal-mart.

Meanwhile, further cuts are planned to both the physical the area and open-to-buy amounts allocated to CD's in the chain.  If WM reduces their CD section by 25%....it'll probably cause a 5% reduction in all CD sales in the US due directly to that alone.  As the nation's largest seller of pre-recorded music, their affect is that dramatic.

While vinyl will have to grow at 50% for some time as CD sales shrink 5% a year or more...in several years due to compounding (and de-compounding  aa) they may meet quite a bit closer than current numbers indicate.

So, if vinyl is in revival we'll need major retailers stocking the software again.  Three cheers for the Fred Meyer assistant buyer that inadvertently led to vinyl's revival as a viable music source :thumb:

Me thinks some "tweaks" in the supply & demand curve are needed to help the LP cause....

While surfing amazon.com yesterday, I saw the new Mudctutch LP is being offered for presale for $28.48.... meanwhile the CD can be had for $9.99. :o

Vinyl cost more to produce than CD (more material to a 12" disc)...and the lesser quantities produced of an album versus the CD version and the far fewer vinyl pressing plants means costs will almost always be higher with vinyl.

As well, it takes more room too ship and store along the way.

That vinyl is gaining ground even tho the costs are far higher is even more telling of the deficiencies of Redbook.
