Signature 30.2
« on: 9 Jun 2008, 01:48 am »

This is my first post so please bear with me. I just had the pleasure of meeting Vinnie and hearing for the first time the RWA gear. I am very impressed to say the least. I thank all of you on this forum for providing great feedback. I thought its best to relay my first impression of the Isabella/dac that Vinnie was so kind to demonstrate. I must point out that the preamp is a prototype and I can not make a final judgement on its performance. The unit shares the same chassis as the Signature amps. I love the "off the grid" sound. Exemplery quietness allowed all the musical detail to flow. I was expecting a warm bodied sound with a murky bottom end similar to my SET amplifier and I was pleasantly surprised to hear the opposite.

The combination of Signature 70.2 monoblocks, Isabella/dac and Vinnie's hard drive MAC book was impressive. I must tell you that Vinnie's RWA gear plummeted the depths of the music like I have never heard before. Given the short time and the fact that the Signature 30.2 was newly assembled I am reporting that it has come into its own in a wonderful way tonight after 15 hours of playtime. The sound is still dynamic but all the air and dimensionality remain intact and transients are smoother. I am using a Audio Horizons pre with the Signature 30.2 and plan on using the Signature 30.2 exclusively after the 100 hour mark.

The Signature 70.2 are a beast and a lovely one at that. They controlled my speakers with terrific focus and dynamics!

Totally enjoyed the afternoon of music. Vinnie thanks so much for coming by and hope we can meet again soon.

Tenantman,
Welcome to AC!

Curious....what source equipment are you using with your 30.2? CD, SACD, turntable, music server?

Also, I find it useful to know the main type of music people listen to when providing equipment review feedback. (naming a band is less help than just the general type.....eg. chamber music ensemble, folk guitar soloist, 70's classic rock, modern electronica, modern jazz). We really don't get enough music references to put things in context.

Hope your RWA continues to bring good music to your ears.

cheers, ed
...I am nearing the 200 hour mark on my 30.2 stereo amp.

This is the fun part. I was using a cheap modified DVD player to fill in the time until I decide on a USB Server as a source or go shopping for a DAC/transport. I have to say that the RWA gear helped to create a wide and dimensional soundstage with surprisingly good bass response inspite of the "cheap" player. I agree that if you happen to be familiar with the source it can be helpful but on the flip side, I have hardly read a review where someone has the same front end source including cables as I do. Most times they are megabuck combos don't you agree?

Ed did your Signature continue to improve towards a tube sound ?

tenantman,

Can't really comment on my 30.2's sound evolving to be more tubelike for three reasons: a) I have never heard my system under full tube amplification and b) I use a tube preamp  c) not very familiar with tube amps -though I auditioned my speakers on a Leben integrated but that was 6 months ago.  I have the power amp version not the integrated so I need a pre to run it and I only have the modwright pre.

And the 30.2 sounded great right from the start. Yes, lots of bass and very dynamic.

so your music is....?

I was surprised by how well it sounded with the modded DVD player, but then I remembered the good ol' days of modding the Toshiba 3950 (and posting details on audioasylum) and it all came back to me!  Wink2

Your speakers work very well with your room... I was impressed!

Thanks again for your post,

Vinnie
