Hi Tony,

If the auto transformer is capable of making 0.75 ohms look like 4 to 8 ohms, to the BYOB, it should work provided the BYOB is stable driving a transformer. It would also get rid of some of the excess gain you would have when moving from 96 dB for 1 watt sensitivity to 102 db (4 drivers) or 105 dB (8 drivers).

However, I do not know how it would affect the music reproduction. If you find that using it has an adverse effect on sound quality you could use the BYOB to drive my "circlotron" current amplifier output stage. This would give you plenty of current to drive the line. If you continue with assembly of a line, and want to use the "circlotron" output stage, let me know and I will send you the circuit diagram.

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul, hmmmmmm.....I like your setup, it just sounds simple to me, and it would just let the music out. I am interested in your amp designs, do you have a schematic? Nice :thumb:

Hi Paul,

I am always in for a little project (it's a hobby)...
I have a T amp module still boxed her somewhere and some chip amps also boxed...
I cannot find the time or motivation to do something with it because the byob is giving me so much pleasure...

But the LDR and your amp seemes a new challenge...
in a few weeks I am 1 week off...so if you would set me in the right direction, the schematic is welcome.(also the ldr attenuator)

kind regards,

Tony

Hi Mr C and Tony,

I was originally going to present the amp circuits as a DIY project for parallel line source array use on the Line Source Array circle but it was archived because of lack of interest. I will prepare some drawings at the weekend and post them in the Lab thread as this is unlikely to be archived.

Tony, the Lightspeed LDR attenuator is documented on the DIY Audio forum. There are a lot of posts to go through and a number of alternative ways of controlling the LDRs. If you wanted to go remote control on this I can help as I have organised a group but on that thread. There are three modules involved. The VCCS is the voltage controlled current source module that provides the control system allowing volume up/down and balance. There are also two modules for the IR transmitter and receiver. They are available as boards only and modules (sorry no kits of parts) and application notes are provided with them.

Regards
Paul

Audiotone,

may I ask how thick your spruce panels are ? I used Spruce with good result in my 'Volks-OB' : http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=46951.0 .

Hi Scorpion,

love your volks OB...it is guys like you who gave me the motivation to do something similar...

The only spruce I could find around here is 18mm thick.
The OB is birch plywood...cannot find spruce panels 50cm wide around here.

regards,

Tony

two panels could be screwed or glued to each other to create a double thick panel?

I n the end at least for the bass panel i will do this.
just received my B200 2 days ago and started "painting" them with C37 violin lacquer

Here at my place in Sweden German 'Bauhaus' has a good selection of Spruce up to 600 mm wide and 18 and 28 mm thick. I am going to use 28 mm now for a good looking baffle to the MJAO.

Hi Mr C and Tony,

The current amplifier output stage circuits are on the Lab Circle. Have fun.

I have no idea what the plug is made of...it seemes a bit hard to me, maybe I will try to make one myself from spruce...

Tony

Finally did it...had an audiofriend made a couple of other plugs...all kind of materials...
the softer the wood...the softer the tone...that is what I hear but YMMV...

here you can see what I have used:

BTW I use open baffles now...no spruce panels yet, but I will get them some day.
