Thinking hard about some MF7s...

Rick or anyone who owns these:

I"m thinking about getting a pair of MF7s, mostly for home theater with some music thrown in. My sources are an HK AVR-247 receiver (50watts per channel), HD-A30 HD-DVD Player, an Xbox 360 and a Wii. How would you charcacterise the sound? Warm, bright, neutral? I prefer a slightly warm speaker. I listen at moderate to low volume levels. Not getting a subwoofer for the moment. My room is 17x15x9. I want to get a stereo pair and possibly expand or move them to surround duty later - I can't afford 5 speakers right now. How happy are you guys with the imaging and dynamics? Anyone care to write a mini review? Yes I've read affordable audio's review.

Thanks a ton.

Thanks for your interest in the MF7. I try to keep all of our designs as neutral as possible but the crossover can be adjusted to suit your listening preferences. The MF7 images very well due to the off-axis response being virtually identical horizontally and vertically. It has good dynamics  and is designed for small to medium size rooms.

Couple more questions... are they recommended for center channel duty as well? How necessary is it to place the tweeter at or near ear height? Is there a deluxe vs. normal crossover option like for the SSR?

Ideal for a center channel because you can lay it horizontally and it works just as well as when it's positioned vertically. On-axis with the tweeter to +/- 20 degrees vertically is the suggested listening window. A deluxe crossover option is available ($725 / pair).

I have a pair of these.

The sound is neutral, forgiving of lousy recordings, and they work extremely well on low cost electronics. The better the electronics, the more impressive they become. IMO, these speakers are unmatched in a commercial product under $2.5k....and maybe more. They really are special.

Thanks for your input Chris... I pulled the trigger yesterday on a Cherry pair after emailing back and forth with Rick a bit. Can't wait to get them

i found that very true with the Tanzanites i have.
i started with denon dra635 reciever and cheap dvd player as source.
then the dvd player died and i got an old NAD cd player, the speakers warmed up a bit and imaging improved.

then i decided to mess with some vinyl and the denon had a little noise in a channel on the phono stage. so i got an old NAD preamp and an adcom power amplifier. it made a world of difference. i really couldn't believe it. the imaging is pretty amazing right now. the mids smoothed out and everything just came together. most noticeable was the bass response. all the sudden i'm really impressed with that excel bass driver.
i'm in love with my stereo now.  aa
