Nikon & Bolex 8mm movie cameras?
« on: 2 Jun 2008, 01:04 pm »
I'm helping my Father-In-Law downsize. He has (4) different 8mm movie cameras. One is a Nikon, two Bolex and one Nixo (I think). Are these worth anything anymore? He's hoping for a good home :)

Remember seeing some of the family ones about 15 years ago, he did a good job. He was very into filming and photography . . . . now he paints.

Hey!

Movie film cams don't worth much these days. :? Although some are worth more than other. :D

Bolex of Switzerland made excellent 8mm and 16mm movie film cams back than and not just that they also make some great lenses for their cams also. :D

I do have a 16mm Bolex H-16 Rex 5 with 18-86mm Vario-Switar zoom on my shelf right now which I bought back when I was taking a film making class. I used it once or twice... movie making wasn't for me.  :icon_lol: Beautiful 16mm movie cam and still runs like a fine Swiss watch. :D Since I don't use it now I'm thinking of selling... sadly the price of this cam went down and it is harder to find a buyer than couple of years before. :?

If you want to have fun you know that you could still get 8mm and 16mm movie films for these cameras... and at least here in NYC there is still a movie film lab that develop these films. But it is a  pain using these... a roll of 8mm film of which is 50ft long will run about 2min and 47sec at 24FPS I think and not to mention that these will cost a lot more than a 60min DV tape

Anyway, your best bet to check the current price for these cams is eBay. :D Most 8mm don't really worth much these days. So, maybe you could just keep them and use them to decorate your home. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Yes, past listings on EBay is probably the best guide.

I tried to make an 8mm movie when I was in high school. It was hopeless  :duh:

Uh oh, there's a weird aren't\don't bug in the board software!  Better look into that! :P

I was always jealous of the older generation whose home movies, if they had them, were shot on film.  I've never actually seen a projected movie like that in person.  Slide shows sure, but not film clips.  That's gotta add like 10 times more nostalgia.

If you could, post a pic of that camera SET Man, I'd like to see it.
